Hi-- Need some help here. I'm trying to help a friend who has a relative who was listed in his brother's obit in 1919 as living at Sawtelle. I found reference on it in a map, but PacBell doesn't have an area code. She put a query on a census list only to be told there was no such place. Since I've heard of it, I think it may have been but maybe no longer a town? ? ? ? ? for 1920 census does anyone have a clue as to how that area was listed in Los Angeles Co.? I'm assuming it was L. A. Co. Thanx for any information you can give. Donna
Sawtelle certainly was a "town" - the Sawtelle Disabled Veteran's Home was in it. The Sawtelle Soldier's Cemetery is now the Los Angeles National Cemetery at 950 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90049. Everything around there is called "Sawtelle" - Sawtelle Self Storage, Japanese Institute Of Sawtelle, Sawtelle Books & Music, etc. I'm not sure what exact area the community encompassed, but the USGS shows Sawtelle on the same map as West Los Angeles. Seams its on both sides of the 405 freeway, near UCLA. GAR has a post in Sawtelle: http://www.users.bigpond.com/bcrompton/caposts.htm http://pmiller7.home.mindspring.com/GGGrandma.jpg.html http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/BTC/direct19.htm Donna Hull wrote: > > Hi-- > > Need some help here.
