Rancho Los Amigos is definitely in western Downey. However, last I heard TB is ***VERY*** contageous, and it would not surprise me if (*IF*) the hospital had a TB ward somewhere off the main property, perhaps in Norwalk. That I don't know. What I DO know is that there is no way TB patients would be kept anywhere near the regular staff and regular patients. Back in high school, 1960s, I was a volunteer for awhile at L.A. Harbor General Hospital, at a lab in a temporary building away from the main building. One day my assigned errands changed, and my erranding route changed. I was instructed by my boss at the lab that my new route went by the TB ward, and I was instructed to keep away from the doors and windows (which were all closed, if not sealed, all the time) and not to stop outside the ward under any circumstances. If I got too near the ward, or if I stopped outside the ward for any reason, I would be fired. I followed orders. Three years later, when I transferred into the University of California, I had a mandatory TB test on entry. Next day, when the test was checked, I was **ORDERED** to report for a second test **NOW** because the first test was positive. I told the doc the above story -- and the second TB test was OK, or at least not too damning, so I was allowed to enter the university, but it was a close one. I rather imagine that a decade earlier, in the 1950s, the hospitals would have been even more strict about isolating TB patients. So, the TB ward could have been anywhere EXCEPT among the regular patients. Lester ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
