Hope someone finds this of interest. Josephine was my great-grandmother, who emigrated from Illinois to California in 1863. This is the verbatim printed notice in the Tucson newspaper; the notes in brackets are mine. COOK FUNERAL IS TO BE ON COAST Mrs. Josephine E[dith Wristen] Cook, 86, died late Wednesday [Jan. 19, 1944] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude H. Webber, 1033 West Alameda street [Tucson, AZ]. She had lived with her daughter for 14 years prior to her death, which followed a long illness. Mrs. Cook was born in Illinois, moving to California by covered wagon in her youth. Before coming to Tucson she resided successively in [Santa Rosa, near] Sacramento and Fresno, Calif. In addition to her daughter Mrs. Cook leaves a son, Wristen M. Cook of Burlingame, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Luella Olufs of Fresno. Also surviving are several grandchildren and a great-grandchild [that's me!]. The body has been sent to Los Angeles, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Rosedale Chapel, followed by burial in the Rosedale Cemetery. The Reilly Undertaking Company is in charge locally. [Josephine's husband, William Henry Cook, died March 31, 1931 in Los Angeles, and was buried in Rosedale Cemetery.] Carol De Priest <http://www.goodnet.com/~dpriest/>
