    3. Hello List, Can someone advise me where to look for records for my Uncle George TOOMBS who, I'm told, was killed during WWII, somewhere over the Mediterranean, body unrecovered? I have no death date or other information except for what follows. Uncle George was, apparently, a tailgunner at the time he died. Before entering service, he was a boxer for a brief period of time in the Los Angeles area and, perhaps, other places (The Orchid Boy of France, aka Francois de la Tombeaux). He may have been born a "CASEY"--it appears that Grandmother was married to Frank CASEY--but don't know if she was ever married to the other fellows in her life--the CA birth index on Rootsweb does show my Uncle as George TOOMBS born on September 28, 1921 (he was born in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA). A picture of him at 13 years, 2 days indicates he is Cecil George Casey. Since my Mother, his sister, Mildred, had an amended birth certificate from "Casey" to O'BRIEN, perhaps her brother also had an amended certificate. I only know his father to be referred to by his nickname of "Blackie" Toombs--have pictures of both of them if I can ever connect them to a Toombs family. My Grandmother's maiden name is listed as ACON (possibly born MO) on my Mother's birth certificate. Grandmother's Mother, my Great Grandmother, was born Mary Elizabeth JOHNSON (possibly in AR), died Feb 1958 in Southern CA (I believe she lived on Sunnyslope in or near Van Nuys; but haven't discovered her birthdate, birthplace, etc. yet).
