    3. Here's the deal. The SSDI does NOT list the deceased's last address. It says where the death benefit was sent. Unless he was living with family, the two are not the same. CADI is more accurate for place of death. He may have been in a nursing home in LA, & the death benefit sent to a surviving spouse or dependant child in another city. Or he may have lived elsewhere, & gone to one of the two VA hospitals in LA county. Or, commonly the recipient of the death benefit may have signed it over to the mortuary. Which brings us to the obituary. In this area, the newspapers do not automatically print obits for everyone who dies. 1.) you have to pay for them 2.) it has to be submitted by a mortuary, or you have to prove the death to the newspaper 3.) some papers print them sooner, some later, so in some papers you have to search a longer time span than others. The best way to find an obit, is to get the death certificate info. contact the mortuary ask the mortuary if / where an obit was submitted for publication. If you are lucky, the mortuary will have a copy in their file. If you are luckier, & if he was not born in CA, they sent it to a hometown newspaper. If so, that's the easiest place to get a copy. Believe me, looking for obits in Los Angeles is not a job for your worst enemy. You might want to get his military file from NARA. It will list any dependants he had while in the service. The retirement info will include a spouse (if any) who would receive continuing benefits after his death.
