Ely Was Leader of Randsburg Co; Well Known in Kern William H. Ely, widely known Kern County mining man died yesterday at his home, 117 Wilson Avenue, Oildale, at the age of 76. He was a native of Illinois and came to San Diego Co. by covered wagon in 1862. He came to Bakersfield in 1899 and had been a resident here ever since. For many years Mr. Ely was an employee of Chanslor Canfield Midway Oil Co. He was formerly president of the Comet Mining Co. and at the time of his death was president of the Rand Mountain Silver Mining Company of Randsburg. Mr. Ely is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nettie S. Ely with whom he celebrated his Golden wedding anniversary in 1936; three sons, Eric W. Ely and Bernard C. Ely, both of Bakersfield and Laurence R. Ely of Fresno; two daughters, Mrs. J. G. Blizard and Miss Bernice N. Ely of Oildale and four grandchildren. Mr. Ely was a member of Neighbors of Woodcraft and the First Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow after noon at 2 o'clock at Payne & Son Chapel with the Reverend Calvin Allen officiating. Burial will be in the perpetual care section of Union Cemetery.
