    3. Hello everyone. My great-grandfather, Henry Harder arrived in California in 1856. He was settled in San Jose in 1871. Between 1856 and 1871 we are not sure where he was, but a family member told my father once that Henry had worked in Death Valley during those years. Is there anyone who has any ideas where to look to possibly confirm this information? Thanks. Mary Beth

    3. Hi Mary Beth, Death Valley is one of my favorite places. There's some info on the internet at: <http://www.nps.gov/deva/FrameSet_culture.html> <http://www.cr.nps.gov/history.htm> - which links to: <http://www.cr.nps.gov/history/askhist.htm>, where you can ask a question of an historian (I'd suggest someone in Western History). By the way, there are historians answering questions on all different things, like the Civil War. So it could be of help to many others out there. There are books on Death Valley history, mainly mining; check your library or used book store. If you have info on what your great-grandfather did when he was in the area, that could narrow your search: there were different kinds of mining. Good luck in your search, Carol At 07:15 PM 2/15/01 -0900, Sid Michaels wrote: > > > Hello everyone. > > My great-grandfather, Henry Harder arrived in California in 1856.
