Donna was brilliant & got for me the DC (see I'm learning fast), for Jean Alfred ROBERTS ... From this I found his father - Alfred W. ROBERTS ... Now this is where I have a problem ... When I found Jean's mother's death certificate, that of Rhoda Ellen ROBERTS (nee DUNN), it stated that Rhoda was a Widow - this was in 1963 - and yet, when I search through the Online California Death Index I only find the one Alfred William ROBERTS:- ROBERTS ALFRED WILLIAM b. 12/17/1899 born. M REST (OTHER) died. SAN DIEGO(37) d. 11/16/1994 SSN 562-09-2620 aged 94 yrs Now *if* this is Rhoda's hubby, then whoever was the informant for her Death Certificate wasn't quite telling the truth - maybe they were divorced & he was being kind by putting her down as a widow - maybe he didn't know she was still married, maybe Rhoda hadn't told him ... An awful lot of maybes, eh ? .. But at least the Born in the Rest (Other) was correct .. There were only 4 ROBERTS with the Alfred name, who were born in Rest/Other, who could could have been Rhoda's husband & only one of those died before 1963 ... AND, doesn't this Death Index only start in 1940 ??? ... Maybe Rhoda's hubby died before 1940 ? ... Another possibility, right ? ... Another very kind person looked at the CA Directories for me & Alfred appears up to 1941 & is not listed for 1942 & 43 ... Others are *our for rebinding* ... Now I wonder, with Alfred not appearing in either 1942 or 43, whether he died during 1939 or 1940 ? ... If these directories are like the ones over here, your name appears in them up to 2 years after you stop subscribing ... So, will anyone please kindly do a look up for the DC of Alfred W. ROBERTS - wife of Rhoda E. ROBERTS (nee DUNN) - in the San Diego area - or the LA area ... Thanks very much ...
