    3. Hi Judie, and others, I forgot to mention that I initially joined this List to ask about my great-uncle, George "Sanford" KIDDER, Jr., who had moved from Winchester, MA, to Riverside, CA, maybe around 1950 ! He died there in the 1960's ! "Sanford" was a grandson of the Joseph KIDDER from Princeton, Maine, who fought in the Civil War - and fought in Florida ! And, I might try to find out who this Warren FREEMAN was who wrote the diary ! www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/20/war.photos.ap/index.html And, this page is from the site for the Library of Congress - which mentions the well-known, Civil War photographer, Matthew BRADY ! http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/cwphtml/cwphome.html Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. If anyone is interested in the KIDDER surname, please visit this web site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1255/1255.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judie Cook" <granny@LIQUIDGRAVITY.ORG> To: <SOCAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 20, 2006 7:39 PM Subject: Civil War Photos > Hi All...... > The congressional library offers rare look at Civil War...This might be > of interest to you all... > Go to :http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/20/war.photos.ap/index.html > This is a CNN.Com article.... > > Judie (in Virginia) >

    1. Re: Civil War Photos
    2. Betty
    3. Hi Judie, Since I grew up in bordering towns, Winchester and Arlington, MA, I know that Arlington was formerly West Cambridge, MA. It was a part of Cambridge which separated into a separate village, and then, in late 1800's, became Arlington ! (Also, part of West Cambridge became Belmont, MA.) So, the diary mentioned in the CNN article was written by a FREEMAN from Arlington, MA - before it became Arlington ! I just thought I'd offer this as an FYI to CA researchers ! There are other books which offer photos from the Civil War ! One important one offered the photos taken by the famous, Civil War photographer -- whom I can't think of the name of at this second ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. My KIDDER ancestor lived in Princeton, Maine, in Washington Co. in the northern part of the State. He fought in the Civil War -- in Fort Fernandina, Florida ! I have never been a history buff, so it amazes me now how far soldiers traveled -- to fight this War ! Perhaps others could add how far their ancestor traveled to fight ! And, I know many soldiers stayed living in the area he fought in ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judie Cook" <granny@LIQUIDGRAVITY.ORG> To: <SOCAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 20, 2006 7:39 PM Subject: Civil War Photos > Hi All...... > The congressional library offers rare look at Civil War...This might be > of interest to you all... > Go to :http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/20/war.photos.ap/index.html > This is a CNN.Com article.... > > Judie (in Virginia) >
