    3. The "70" is for the city of Los Angeles. Apparently whichever "founding fathers" in Sacto long ago thought that due to it's size there would be so many documents to record that a separate # would be needed. This was also done for San Diego, & Alameda as I recall. I'm surprised that San Francisco didn't get a unique # also. My guess is the #'s were established after SF became a combined city / county with identical boundaries. These #'s are used through out government, not just for vital statistics. 3. Linda, The number "19" you are referring to indicates the county of death. There happens to be 2 numbers for Los Angeles County, although I'm not clear on the "why" of this. The other number for Los Angeles County is "70". Every entry on the death index should contain a number in the column you refer to, indicating the county of death. 3. Hello Cherie I have been following the emails in reference to your offer of photos at Inglewood. Do you take pictures in the mausoleums? I have two relatives that are in one of the mausoleums there, but for the life of me cannot find the papers that state which one. Do you need that? If you can and will, I will give you their names. 2. Cheri Wilkinson
    3. Dear Listers, Many of you will recall my offer earlier this week to take photographs of headstones at Inglewood Park Cemetery here in the Los Angeles area. Having received several "blanket" requests, I think I need to clarify the offer. I am happy to take photographs of the headstones of your relatives and ancestors who you know are buried in the cemetery. I will need a list of specific names of the people whose graves you want photographed -- for example, I cannot not accept a request to photograph all the "ADAMS"* graves in the cemetery. Bottom line: if you know who you want "shot" and you know they are buried at Inglewood Park Cemetery, I will be happy to help you out. L8r, Cheri Wilkinson *FYI: This is not only the well known family of, among others, American presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, but is also an adopted last name of many the Roma (gypsy). There are literally dozens and dozens of Adams buried at Inglewood. Not all of them necessarily even distantly related.

    3. Hi my name is Joanne Brown and I live in Ashland, Virginia. I saw this post on Inglewood Cemetery. And that you go out there from time to time. And take pictures of head stones. As it is hard for me to get out there, my grandfather and step grandmother are buried there. I had never met them, but have a picture of the two of them. Would like to know if I give you the names and dates, would you mind taking a picture of their headstone, if they have one, I would greatly appreciate it very much, and will be glad to pay you for it. His name is Samuel Edward Brown , born 1885- died in 1921, was a police officer for L.A. He died from a car accident. His wife was Millie Pertie Brown, not sure when she died. If you would could you please check and see if there is a headstone and take a picture for me. Thank you so very much for your time. Joanne Brown Ashland, Va. 3. I have just completed transcribing the 1870 Census for Kern County, CA. It covers six townships. The Townships include the communities of Havalah [2 Townships in this postal area], Linns Valley, Tehachapi, Kernville, and Bakersfield. The link is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/census/files/ca/kern/1870/ I believe it will ba a log of help to the researchers to have it online. Sincerely, Edward, Sr.

    3. I haven't a clue about the County Farm part of your e-mail, but wonder if you would want a photograph of your grandfather's headstone (assuming there is one). This isn't a solicitation. I volunteer on a list that takes headstone photos for people who wouldn't be able to for various reasons - as several of my relatives are buried in Inglewood Cemetery (including my paternal grandparents) I've sort of adopted it. If you'd like me to take some photos for you the next time I'm out there, just give the word and I'll do what I can. In the event there is no marker, if you'd like a shot of the grave (many people do), I'd be happy to do that too. There is no charge for this -- I'm not fast and I'm not a professional photographer -- I would only ask that you cover postage. You might be interested (and as surprised as I was!) that Inglewood Cemetery is apparently the cemetery of choice of the local Los Angeles gypsy community and the graves of several deceased Kings of the Gypsies are located there. The things one learns hanging out at the cemetery! Sincerely, Cheri Wilkinson Los Angeles, CA

Among other things, It has a catalog of all the books, films and fiches which are held exclusively at the library. To be added soon will be Arizona Newspaper Obituaries and later will be the AZ Vital Records Index. Note that if you put a surname in the film inventory database, it looks for the name of the person who ordered the film, not the surnames that are featured on the film. There are still some bugs to work out. I searched for the surname Clough and got a bunch of references to McCloughlin. In September, the Mesa FHC averaged 197 patrons per day. The multi-volume set of Polish surname locator books which were purchased by the Polish Genealogical Society in memory of FHSA member Kathy Dembinski have arrived. There is a new volume of the Passenger and Immigration Lists, the 2001 supplement at the reference table. ============================== Check out RootsWeb's new threaded archives! http://archiver.rootsweb.com/
