Greg, Do you have the address of your mother's parents home in El Segundo? (if that is where they lived at the time of her birth) I would be happy to take a photo of it for you if you are interested. Many of the original old bungalow style homes are still standing. Nancy Manhattan Beach

Folks, this is indeed sad news. This message was posted on the CA-Nevada County list by <Fiebar@aol.com> (I'm sorry - I don't have his/her real name). Patricia (or PJ as many of us knew her) was a tireless genealogist very dedicated to the Gold Rush and California history. She asked me to take over her CA-GOLDRUSH lists and the California Goldrush Most Wanted web site when she became really sick (a year or two ago) with her hopes of later on feeling up to taking them back. Later, when that wasn't possible, I had the privilege of keeping them. We will miss her greatly. About five years ago, very many of the zip codes in Riverside county (92--- series) were relocated. If San Diego is served by the USPO regional facility in San Bernardino, it is possible that re-alignment extended into San Diego. Lester, I may be able to answer a few of your questions and then ad a few more bugs to the pie. With the assistance of some great people I have been able to obtain additional information on my Horace Walter Turner. You were correct in the Ethel C. Fisher and Horace divorced sometime after the birth of my mom, Ardath Mary Turner in August 1923. I have only today obtained my moms sisters name, who died at birth and was the eldest twins. Based on the California Birth Index the following information was obtained: TURNER, Adriane b. 8/20/1923, mothers maiden name FISHER TURNER, Ardath M. b. 8/20/1923, mothers maiden name FISHER Adriane died at birth on 8/20/1923 and was the eldest of the two twins. My mom, Ardath, died on Feb 3, 1998 and was laid to rest in Oroville California. She can be found on the CA Death Index as Ardath Mary Robnett. On my moms birth certificate it has listed Horace Walter Turner, her father, as an Engineer working at the Standard Oil Refinery. As you have eluded to Horace could have remarried a women with the initials "LJ". I have no information on who this LJ may have been, but then my search is still very young. In about 1978, while I was in the Navy visiting the San Diego area, I was able to locate Horace who at the time was confined to a Rest Home. Due to the limited amount of time in the area I was only able to talk with him on the phone. I do appreciate the information you've provided and has given me more to search. I've written to obtain Horace's SS5 and when it arrives will add that information to my information, Again, Lester, I very much appreciate the interest you have taken in my search. Hi Guys, In an affidavit that Martha McDonald Swarowsky sent to the US Army to verify that she was Rudolph Thomas Swarowsky's "MOM" she stated that he attended Pacific Jr. High School in Sacramento CA between NOV 1933 and June 1938. I can not find a school by that specific name. I have snail mailed all ( at least all the ones I find addresses for on the internet) the schools in Sacramento that have similiar names without any luck. She also stated that he attended Galt High School during this time. I have corresponded with Galt High School and have no record of Rudolph Thomas Swarowsky ever attending their school although they have records back to the 1920's. Anyone have any ideas as to where to look for school records for this time frame/ and area. Galt is near Sacramento isn't it? Thanks, Rosa
Bob, It's refreshing to see you've done so much leg work already. How about trying these sources: Vernon E. Greer Middle School 248 West A Street Galt, CA. Principal: William Maffei Asst. Princ.: Cleo Del Toro-Anguiano (209) 745-2641 There is a possibility that they know whatever became of the junior high school you are looking for. Also, try: Galt Area Historical Society, Inc P. O. Box 782 Galt, Ca. 95632 (209) 745 0951 I'm sure some nice person there can answer your questions. How about filling us in when you find out more? I cannot help with Horace WALTER Turner. But when you mentioned North Hollywood, I thought I ought to note that my uncle, Horace FRASER Turner (b. 1907 IA), lived in North Hollywood from 1934 until 1999. Although he died in Porterville in 2000, it was in a nursing home and his last social security address was probably still North Hollywood. If your SSDI date on Horace Turner was 2000, it was probably my uncle and not your grandfather. Larry Turner << From: Gregory Rogers <olsaltusa@netscape.net> Subject: HORACE WALTER TURNER b. ca 1901 KA, CA I am searching for additional information on my Grandfather Horace Walter Turner b. ca 1901 in KA. Horace married my grandmother, Ethel Catherine Fisher in 1920/21. There were three children born of this marriage 1. Wallace Turner b. unknown 2. unknown baby girl (older twin) 3. Ardath Mary Turner b. 20 August 1923 in el Segundo, CA. (2nd twin) Until this evening I had understood that my mom's sister had died in delivery, however, my mom's birth certificate indicates that she was the third living child of this marriage and the second of in order of birth. Another mystery to solve. I believe Horace lived in the San Diego CA area however a search of the Social Security Death Index indicates that a Horace Turner passed away in N. Hollywood, CA. According to the Birth Certificate his occupation was "Engineer" and he worked for "Standard oil Refy." Any information on Horace "WALTER" Turner would be very much appreciated.
