My husband has asked that I put a query on this list to ask if there is a historical society that could make copies of the actual obituary, instead of a transcription. A correction to my search information....DORIS VALENTINE MEYERS was born for sure on 2-14-1926. Here again is my information...        Hello!  Here is all of my search information, thus far.  I would really appreciate it if anyone would be willing to help me out, or if you have any suggestions.  Here it is...       My dad, Russell Kenneth Failing, was born on July 7, 1947 at Los Angeles County General Hospital.  He birth name was Baby Boy Meyers, and he was adopted at birth.  The adoption was finalized on Feb. 10, 1948 in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. The "Decree of Adoption" form was filed on Feb. 17, 1948 in Book 70, page 237 by C.F.Escapite, Deputy. I also have the case number from the State of California, Department of Social Welfare. My dad’s adoptive parents (Russell Eugene Failing and Katherine Laura Lutes) arranged this, via a lawyer (Elwood Bowles from Los Angeles, CA), prior to his birth.  The only birth certificate that he has ever known is an "altered" one, stating the vital information of his adoptive parents.             His birthmother is Doris Valentine Meyers.  She is Caucasian and is of German descent.  She was born in Washington in Pierce County on 2-14-1926. Doris moved to CA 2 months prior to his birth.  She was Methodist.  According to the non-identifying information, she was employed as a stenographer, but according to her marriage certificate (which I will address later), she was a secretary for a drug company.              His birthfather is Mark Keller.  He is Caucasian and is of French descent.  Mark was born in New York.  He was 26 at the time of my dad’s birth, which means he must have been born sometime between July 7,1920 and July 7, 1921.  He was also Methodist.  He was serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy and was overseas at the time of my dad’s birth.  Also, Mark Keller was not informed about my dad’s birth.        Doris Valentine Meyers married Lloyd Clarance Ryan,Jr. on December 25, 1947 (2 months before the adoption was finalized!).  According to the non-ID, Doris married a student at USC in Dec. 1947, thus Lloyd Clarance Ryan, Jr. attended USC.  My dad’s adoptive mom told him that Dorismarried an anthropologist and moved to San Jose, CA.  So, Lloyd must have studied anthropology, assuming that his mom was telling the truth.              I obtained Doris Valentine Meyers’ marriage certificate.  It is as follows:  Marriage CertificateTranscription:  Book # 2935  Page 65 Married on December 25, 1947 at 3201 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles Lloyd Clarance Ryan, Jr  White  Age 21 b. 2/11/1926 CA Residence: 3987 S Menlo Ave, Los Angeles Single  1st marriage Occupation:  Student f. Hi Listers, I wanted to share an experience I had today attempting to find a burial niche. By a request from a member of the List, I went to Hollywood Forever Cemetery to find the burial site of George Barnes. The cememtery is lush and beautifully restored; the graves reflect the changes in Los Angeles over the years. There are the traditional carved granite markers---even a cluster of Confederate veterans' graves. There are also very large, ornate polished marble slabs with inscriptions in Greek, Armenian, Hebrew and Russian languages. I went to the exact place in the mausoleum given to me by the cemetery office to locate the Barnes niche---it wasn't there ! The row and column numbers were in sequence...but the one for Barnes was missing. I looked up and down the rows and aisles---nope, it just wasn't there. A re-check in the office didn't help. There is a listing for Barnes, but no actual niche at the specific site. So, I came away without new information; just new questions for the Lister who requested the research. I have found this is rather typical of cemetery research. Am I allowed to think out loud on this list? If not delete this as soon as you see it. Okay, I have found children born of a Swarowsky Mom in 1952. I am thinking possibly I could find a marriage between this lady Swarowsky and Mr. Pope . Will the state of California look for a marriage without a specific date? Or by some wonderful chance is there a volunteer that could look at the CAMI from 1952 back to the earliest marriages for me. I am trying to determine if this Swarowsky Mom is either my sons' great aunt Elaine, or Frances or Ruth or maybe none of the above. The marriage probably isn't there. There are three children born to a Swarowsky mom and a Pope dad the earliest is in 1948 so the marriage would be before the dates covered by CAMI. These births were all in Sacramento Co. There is a Swarowsky Mom in Santa Clara in 1983, dad is Carion, I think they lived in San Mateo in 1978 as there is a child born there of parents of the same name. Maybe they married in San Mateo. There are 2 Smith children born in Sacramento in 1938, 1939 , of a Swarowsky mother. One of them have the middle name "Elaine". A Betty Jane Russell was born in Los Angeles in 1948 of a Swarowsky mom . Where else can I look for marriages ? County records?? Like someone said it is not like I am looking for Smith. Paul some people in the 1940s had to file "delayed" birth certificates when their birth had not been registered.
