Joe -Thanks very much for your interest. I am trying, through the SOCAL list to have someone look at her DC. Yes, I have considered that he very likely could have been Vanzel Platt. Have only within the past year or so known that her married name was Platt and that she had died. I , novice that I am, haven't considered looking for her marriage certificate. I feel a real urgency to find him because I would like to tell him that his father really wanted to contact him. He was seriously injured in a construction accident - a stick of dynamite blew up in his face, and starting about 1949 went through 23 surgeries and months and months of hospitalisation. He did not ever regain more than a very small amount of sight. Of course he was unable to work. His new wife, my MIL, was adamantly opposed to helping him find him and he was unable to do it alone....or so he thought. Thanks again. Joe - the brother's name would be Vanzel SPENCE, if his mother kept his father's name. However, the divorce occurred when he was very young so I have to consider that he may have grown up with the name of his step-father. Also, a strange event occurred about twenty years ago while we were still living in Central California. A man who was only slightly acquainted with my husband told him....."you know you have a twin brother walking around in Southern California don't you"? Without thinking, my husband just laughed, said no, and sort of forgot about it until later. I went to this gentleman and asked a few questions about this "twin". He told me that back in the late 1950's or 1960s he was acquainted in Ventura, California, with a man who "not only was the spitting image of my husband, he walked like him and he talked like him".....you could have knocked me over with a feather when he told me his name: Van !!! He was certain that the guy's name had been Van Foster. Of course, it really isn't likely that this was the brother but stranger things have happened. Anyway, thanks for asking. Had no problem accessing this site. But it is a membership paid site that requires a User ID & password to access the individual databases. Monday, January 08, 2001: CA Death Index now including 1905-1939 data http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca/whatsnew.htm Tis fairly easy to use ... As a Foreigner I wasn't all that up on the abbreviations & they aren't all that easy to find .. Sue
In an effort to find my husband's half-brother I am hoping that the mother's DC will give a clue. If someone could check the DC I would be most appreciative and willing to pay for their time. Her name: Lorena Platt, died Chatsworth, April 12, 1994. I have checked for obituary - none in Los Angeles but haven't had an opportunity to check Chatsworth. I also wrote to what is apparently the "main" Chatsworth funeral home but no response, at least not yet. Any help very much appreciated. Blanche Elliott Spence in Northwest Montana
