    1. Re: Disposal of Ashes
    2. In a message dated 7/8/2003 2:36:10 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: On my relative's DC there is no mention of the disposition of the ashes. I would assume that the disposition was completely at the discretion of the surviving party in carrying out the deceased's last wishes. On the many DC transcriptions I have done with cremation as the disposition of the body, it generally states the ashes were removed to; giving a name and/or at least an address, unless they were depositied in the crematorium's inurnment section. If nothing is stated, I would begin my search at the crematorium indicated on the DC. Heaven knows different counties do things differently! Not to mention different practices throughout time........ 3. I have a death certificate for a relative who died on January 1, 1929, at Los Angeles County General Hospital (County/USC). It states that the "body was removed to the Long Beach Crematory on January 3, 1929, by undertaker J. J. Mottell, Inc. for cremation." The death notice in the Long Beach Press-Telegram states that Mottell's Chapel was at Third Street and Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach. On my relative's DC there is no mention of the disposition of the ashes. I would assume that the disposition was completely at the discretion of the surviving party in carrying out the deceased's last wishes. I wonder if there are surviving records for Mottell's, as I would like to find information about my relative's surviving spouse. - Mike Huggins, Irvine, CA -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 12:55 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Mottell's & Peek Mortuary/Crematory Joe, Thanks for pointing out that I failed to mention the city the crematory was located in. 1. East Pasadena Ranch History clarification
    2. Gregory McReynolds
    3. Hi again group, Nancy Howard asked if I would clarify and elaborate on my project so here goes: My History will cover the area from Allen Avenue on the West, North to the foothills, East to Sierra Madre (and including some of Sierra Madre¹s early history and people), and down to the southern boundary of Pasadena along what is now San Marino. I will be covering the families with Southern heritage like the Johnsons, Griffins, and Chapmans. The British families of Allen, Fox, Praeger, Sutton, and some of the British families that settled in Sierra Madre. The East Coast Society families of Rhoades, Cogswell, Kinney, Murray, Crank, Brigden and others. Again the period will cover between 1850 and 1900. Also early history of San Gabriel (however this will be very brief and serve only to introduce the reader to what led up to settlement in East Pasadena). The main village at the time was Lamanda Park which was subdivided by L.J. Rose form his Sunny Slope Ranch in 1885. Brief topics will include Sports and Pastimes, the Citrus and grape industries, and the Chinese laboring class. My biggest challenge is locating unpublished photos of the area and its people, preferably from individuals rather than the large repository archives like the Huntington, Pasadena Museum of History, etc., as they charge for the use of photos from their collections and this is proving to be a rather heavy expense. I welcome any input. Thank you, Gregory McReynolds Pasadena, California

    2. Dear listers, Last night (early this morning) I posted many obits in response to requests. In my posts, I inadvertantly failed to remove the Social Security numbers and in one case the mother's maiden name that came from the CA Death Index. That was an error on my part due to exhaustion. Please do not be confused by my error. We are still not to post the mother's maiden name or the SS# *if that info comes from the CA Death Index.* If it comes from another source, that is a different matter. When you see my posts with the notation *deleted in compliance with CA law* please be aware that the information is available on the CA Death Index and you can seek it out yourself. I just can't post it - or I should 't be. Please forgive any confusion I may have caused. It was not my intent. The confusion caused by this whole new law thing is bad enough without my making it worse...... Sharon Kern Co Volunteer

    3. Hello, I am new to the group and want to introduce a project I'm working on. I am compiling a pictorial history on the Ranches of East Pasadena for the period of 1850 - 1900. If anyone has original material especially photos that they'd allow me to use I'd be very appreciative. Of course any material selected for inclusion will include an entry of from whom and where the info or photo came. Thank you, Gregory McReynolds Pasadena, California
