Listers, There is a new database online at Ancestry.com on the biographical history of Fresno, Tulare & Kern counties that has many biographies. From the description: "It contains a history of California from the earliest period to the nineteenth century, along with biographical sketches of some of these counties' most prominent men and many of their pioneers." On the Ancestry.com home page it is listed under the What's New? section. I am not certain whether this database is only available by subscription or not, but, I'll be glad to check for names if you cannot access it. Sharon Kern Co Volunteer

Here is the obit you requested for the following person: HOLLINGSWORTH MAC DONALD born: 04/05/1936 M OKLAHOMA died; KERN 08/06/1995 age: 59 yrs requested by: [email protected] The Bakersfield Californian, August 9, 1995 The Rev. Hollingsworth Cleric, 59 The Rev. Mac D. Hollingsworth was the kind of pastor who related well to regular folks who worshiped in his church, Faith Church of the Nazarene, as he did to the big shots. "He had all of those things that a minister should possess," said Peggy Whitaker, a secretary at the church. "He was a real approachable person and not someone who stood above someone else. The time he gave you was always generous and immediate." Hollingsworth, 59, died Sunday at the intersection of Panama Lane and Union Avenue. His car was broadsided by an alleged drunken driver as Hollingsworth and his wife, "Bunny," were driving on Panama Lane, Mrs. Hollingsworth rem ained in intensive care Tuesday at Kern Medical Center. Hollingsworth spent 29 years in the ministry, pastoring in several California cities, including Modesto, Fontana and Coalinga, as well as in Texas. He had pastored at Faith Nazarene for about three years. Hollingsworth did a lot more than preach, according to his oldest son, Randy Hollingsworth. "He just lived the life," the oldest of Hollingsworth's four sons said. "If you met the guy you would know he was assertive, but not aggressive." Long-time friend, Ted Rutherford said Hollingsworth was a man's man. The two met during their youth at East Bakersfield High School, where they played football. Hollingsworth was a quarterback. Rutherford said Hollingsworth's exploits on the football field won him notoriety as an extremely fierce competitor with a great sense of humor. The men went separate ways after graduating in 1955, but rekindled their friendship when Rutherford returned to Bakersfield a few years ago. Both loved flying and were members of the Kiwanis. Hollingsworth officiated Rutherford's wedding earlier this year. "I sure will miss him. He was a great counsel for me," Rutherford said. Hollingsworth was a native of Wayne, Okla. He was married for 25 years to Judy Lewis Hollingsworth. The couple had four sons. Judy Hollingsworth and son Donald preceded Hollingsworth in death. He served in the Army and founded Omega Hearing Aid Center four years ago. Hollingsworth also was a member of the Kern County HIV/AIDS Consortium. This month Hollingsworth and his wife Bunny Hollingsworth would have celebrated their 10th anniversary. He is survived by his wife, and sons Randy, Ron and Greg. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Olive Knolls Church of the Nazarene, 6201 Fruitvale Ave. The services will be officiated by Dr. Wil Spaite, district superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, the family request donation be made to a building fund at Faith Church of the Nazarene, 5301 S. H St., Bakersfield, 93304. Sharon Kern Co. Volunteer
