This is a great project and I applaud Sharon for yet another volunteer venture. We are so lucky to have her! I used the pre-1905 to verify information from some of the hard-to-read headstones at Mountain View Cemetery. I found the site easy to navigate and VERY useful. Another option for sending contributions could be to use Paypal. (www.paypal.com) Judie, what do you think of that idea? Paula (who has a link to the pre-1905 CADI from http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~socalobituaries/ ) Judie says ... This is a note to bring you up to date on the pre-1905 CADI project, which we call the Phoenix Project. Yes, we are still here, and yes, we know there have been a lot of questions. And so I will attempt to answer some of them . None of this comes free of course. Thousands of hours of drudge work and a considerable amount of dollars have been spent just on postage alone. If you feel compelled to donate some funds, we will gladly accept .
Dear Listers, This is a note to bring you up to date on the pre-1905 CADI project, which we call the Phoenix Project. Yes, we are still here, and yes, we know there have been a lot of questions. And so I will attempt to answer some of them . Nothing much has been done on the site since last February. Our web-master became ill, and has not been able to work on it. However, during that time, Elvina, Betty and I have NOT been idle. Betty is the CHIEF PROOFER and has taken on the job of re-proofing every single file already on line, those that were being held to go online, and those that we are working on right now. Elvina is in charge of doing the drudge work of copying the films and making master copies.at least 3,000 pages so far just on Sacramento County alone!!! Elvina mails me the masters, I make a second copy to send to our dear transcribers, and send them out. A word about the transcribers: they are the most wonderful group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They BEG for work!! And, they are so good and so fast. I really have to scramble to keep up with them You have them to thank for all of the records we will be putting online very soon. There are many, but I want to give special thanks to Justina Cook, Bill Norin, Alma Stone, Lorraine Works, and the incredible sisters, Sue Wood and Pat Seabolt.!! (a round of applause please!!) A special thanks to Tim Purdy. Tim donated his work, compiling death records from the Lassen Advocate from 1869-1904 and beyond. Within the next week, you should be seeing some amazing things happening on the site. Our new "web-mistress" is Sharon Dulcich and her work is really "uptown". We are very excited and can hardly wait for the "grand opening".Sharon and Elvina are working their fingers to the bone while Betty continues to provide them with PROOFED files. Meanwhile, my group is hard at work on Sacramento County Death Certificates.Sue and Pat are each working on 200 pages right now. None of this comes free of course. Thousands of hours of drudge work and a considerable amount of dollars have been spent just on postage alone. If you feel compelled to donated some funds, we will gladly accept . We will continue to build this project until we have transcribed death records for every county possible. Regrettably there are some counties who did not keep records, but we will search for other sources. Perhaps there will be others like Tim, who will be willing to share their work so that everyone can benefit from it. We look forward to having you visit us. Stay tuned and happy hunting. It would have occurred sometime around 1944. Thanks, Debbie Prior to 1949 you will have to know the county where the marriage license was issued. The marriage index begins in 1949 and goes to 1985. I was hoping that somebody could possibly find a marriage lookup for me. Marriage would be between 1955 and 1963 somewhere and probably in Southern California. It is between a Wilson Male and a Jorgensen female. I know this is rather vague, but somebody out there that has access to the marriage index, I would appreciate you letting me know what you can find. Thanks so much. Donna
The Consortium of Southern California Genealogical Societies met in Burbank at the SCGS library for an all-day session to discuss problems, solutions, and means of communication among the societies in Southern California. There were 52 people attending representing 19 genealogical societies in Southern California. These societies were: Antelope Valley Genealogical Society British Isles Family History Society California African-American Genealogical Society Conejo Valley Genealogical Society, Inc. Corona Genealogical Society Genealogical Society of Hispanic America Hi-Desert Genealogical Society Immigrant Genealogical Society Los Angeles Westside Genealogical Society Orange County CA Genealogical Society Palm Springs Genealogical Society Questing heirs Genealogical Society, Inc. San Bernadino Valley Genealogical Society San Fernando Valley Genealogical Society South Bay Cities Genealogical Society Southern California Genealogical Society Temecula Valley Genealogical Society Ventura County Genealogical Society Whittier Area Genealogical Society The day was extremely productive. Many innovative solutions were presented to the group from various society leaders. Participants came away with many ideas on how to improve their own genealogical society. Another goal our ours is to improve communication among our societies. The individuals who attended from the above societies are to be commended for their willingness to spend an entire Sunday to work to improve their society for their members. I meant to say I can't find the Beaumonts in the census.... Flavia
I have found two children who were born in California, but I can find their parents in the census: Thomas Beaumont born about 1830 in Ohio/Araminta Blackford Beaumont born 10 July 1838, died 14 February 1864. I believe they both died in West Virginia Children: John William F. Beaumont born 18 January 1858 - died 14 July 1858 Sarah Edith Beaumont born 22 May 1859 in California - married 24 Jan 1884 in Hancock County, West Virginia. George Edgar Beaumont born 29 October 1861 in California Frederick William Beaumont born 31 January 1864 The middle two children, Sarah and George are enumerated in the Hancock County, West Virginia 1870 census with their grandmother. The mother may have died in California, and possibly along with the 4th child. If anyone has any ideas where I might look, in California, let me know. I've tried the 1860 census index on genealogy.com but could not find a Beaumont that fit. Thanks, Flavia Hodges, San Pablo, CA
