    1. [SNOW-L] Trip to Salt Lake City
    2. Wayne Campbell
    3. I have a wonderful opportunity to spend a week in Salt Lake City next month and I'm not sure of the best way to spend my time, genealogy wise. I plan to spend 3-4 days in the LDS library, etc. What are my first steps once I get there, where do I go first, is there a "process" that one goes through, are there eating establishments close by, what should one take with them as far as personal records are concerned, are there written/un-written rules, do/don't do items for using the library? As you can see there are lots of questions. Can you supply some of the answers? Any advice, recommendations, answers, etc. will be most appreciated because I want to make the most of the short time that I will be there. Thanks much, Wayne Campbell --- James Campbell --- waynpegg@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.

    3. Wayne, The first thing I would suggest is to go to the LDS website: http://www.familysearch.com There are several tabs at the top of the page, click on the one that says "Library" .It will take you to all the information about the Salt Lake City Library. On the left is places you can click on and it will tell you different information about visiting the Library. There are two different buildings you will want to visit. The main one that is called the Family History Center and the other is the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. The Family History Center is where the Country, State, and County books are and also film and microfiche. Information about other countries are there also. There is a map of the building so you will know where everything is before you get there. Joseph Smith Memorial Building is where all the group sheets and pedigree sheets are kept that people have sent in, also the books that have been written about family histories. You can be there for a month and still not get to everything, so it helps if you have a plan before you visit. You will not have time to do everything you have planned so do the most important first. I tried to research the books because some of them are not on film or microfiche. You can always order the film and microfiche from a local Center. Take lots of change with you. You can get rolls of money at the help desk but sometimes there is a big line. You can only copy 5 pages at a time at the copying machines so be organized and have your pages book marked. If there is just one or two pages from a book that you want copied wait until you have two or three books and take them to the machines all together. At times there is quite a line at the coping machines. And as always there are some people that won't follow the rules and stand there and copy way more pages then five. If it gets to bad you might have to tell the helpers. I carried a fanny pack with a coin purse inside so I wouldn't have to keep getting into my purse, of course you will not have that problem. :-) Hope this helps and good luck, Bev ----- Original Message ----- From: Wayne Campbell <waynpegg@earthlink.net> To: <SNOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2001 9:53 AM Subject: [SNOW-L] Trip to Salt Lake City > I have a wonderful opportunity to spend a week in Salt Lake > City next month and I'm not sure of the best way to spend my time, genealogy > wise. > > I plan to spend 3-4 days in the LDS library, etc. What > are my first steps once I get there, where do I go first, is there a "process" > that one goes through, are there eating establishments close by, what should one > take with them as far as personal records are concerned, are there > written/un-written rules, do/don't do items for using the library?
