That may she light on where Samuel was born. This could very well be a child of the Samuel Snow I seek, who lived Warsaw, NY and listed there in 1820 census with wife and small children. I have to check to see if this Samuel was still at Warsaw 1830 census . . . if not they could have moved to IN . . . My Samuel had a sister, Rebeckah Snow, b. 1790 Providence, married NY 1815 to Thomas F. Palmer, Thomas & Rebeckah moved to Warsaw, Genesee Co. (in 1846 this became Wyoming Co.) NY and are listed there in 1820 census, with their various small children. Listed on next line of census, and next door to them is SAMUEL SNOW, with wife and small children. These children seem younger than Rebeckah's and I suspect that Samuel was her younger brother, but no other direct evidence. Thomas & Rebeckah moved to OH about 1830 and to Kane Co. IL about 1842. It seems to me that it is possible that your Samuel b. IN 1821, who married to Jane Sharpe could be a son of the Samuel who was in Warsaw in 1820 census. I need to check that 1830 census to see if my Samuel (likely b. 1790s) was gone from Warsaw by then, given that your Samuel was b. 1821 in Indiana. Also a check of the Warsaw land records might shed clues. What does 1850 Marion Co. IN census tell you, if anything? But the names of S. & J's children you list shed no clues, and that is not a good sign, and Terri lists families which she feels are connected, and whose names do not seem to relate to my Rebeckah Snow Palmer or her brother Samuel Snow. My Thomas Palmer & Rebeckah Snow had six children, all B. NY 1816-1828: Margaret McCoon Palmer (1816 NY - 1834 OH) Lydia Hubbard Palmer (1817 NY - 1903 IA) m. Orrin Gridley Joseph Snow Palmer (1819 NY - 1892 IL) marr Cnythia Parker in OH 1845 Eliza Ann (1822 NY - 1895 IA) marr Lorin A. Williams 1841 Chloe Allen Palmer (1825 NY - 1894 KS) marr Noah Post Ephraim Milo Palmer (1828 NY - 1892 IL) marr Sarah H. Butler in IL 1861 Peter Burrows, Annapolis MD
Peter, I may have misled you and others, since I now have knowledge that Jane Sharpe or Tharpe was actually Jane Thorp. Both of them were born in Indiana. Both are said to have been orphans!! Samuel may have been born in LaHarpe or LaPorte, IN and raised by a sawmill man named Snow. I have not looked at the 1850 census yet, but in 1858 they bought land in Bates Co, MO and in 1860 census they are in Barton County, MO. Then in Osage County, KS in 1870 and 1880 census. I have not found a Snow-Thorp wedding. Any suggestions for future research are welcome.
