Both Snow and Qualls families were in Johnson Co., AR in the 1850's. They were married in 1854. I can't find them on the 1860 census in AR or the Indian territories. Nathan died 15 June 1863. Fannie returned to Johnson Co., AR and remarried Silas Jackson Cooper. I appreciate your help! Linda

He cited a bit of the information in the manuscript to me. The part he sent was ironically about my g-g-grandfather in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. I would love to get my hands on a copy of this manuscript. My grandfather Des Snow's 75th birthday is approaching and I think he would love a copy of this for his birthday. He has been absolutely in awe from the work I have already been doing on our family history. So I think this could be an added bonus. 3. I know that when Thomas SNOW drowned, Elizabeth took inventory and then most of the farm (except for the land) was auctioned. They had several kids, youngest two year old twins. The three men supervising provided, as had been ordered by the court, certain specified foodstuffs for a year's provisions. Elizabeth bought back quite a few of the family's possessions. I have come across other families where guardians were appointed for kids even though their mother was living. Guess women weren't considered smart enough to make decisions for their kids. Could it be that William Thompson was considered a better protector of their interests/inheritance -- some of which could be in conflict with interests of siblings? Sammie wrote: I am curious. 3. Thanks Francis for the informative citations on the "Obediahs" of Surry and Wilkes Counties NC. Whether or not any of these Obediah's belong to me, I am curious. Why was William Thompson appointed guardian of little Obed and sister Jane when there were other older male siblings nearby who should have been appointed? Wasn't Abigail (their mother) still alive? Also, why was William Thompson ordered by the court to sell Obed's slaves and then he bought Obed's plantation? This is most curious. Have any thoughts on this? Is there more to this story that we haven't yet heard? Sorry, I love history. Sammie Leap

    3. Ernie; Re the book at the MAine State Library and material there on SNOW's from Canada; None of the books there can leave the library...unless the policy has changed in the past year....also re copies by mail; do not think they do that either . A cousin of mine goes there frequently for me when she is doing her own research and unless the policy has changed, everything has to be done on the premises and copies made for the person using the material.
