Dear Snows, A couple of weeks ago we new members put out a plea for information on our William Henry Snow b. Jan 22, 1814, m. Matilda Norma Ann Chilton, d. sep 17, 1883 Walker Co. AL. Since that time, we have received some information from Jasper library. William Henry was the son of Tom (Thomas) Snow and Cynthia Gooch. He was born in TN, somewhere. The note on Tom says, "of Scotch Irish descent. He came from Scotland to the US, landing in Charleston South Carolina, migrating into Georgia and on into Tennessee, settling on Partake Creek. Later he moved into Walker County Ala, settling on Lost Creek." Apparently he owned land in Tuscaloosa Co. in 1824. Now we would very much like to have any information on this Snow line. Charles T. This form can be obtained from any VA office, Service Officer at a local VFW Post, chaper office of the Vietnam Veteran's of America (VVA) and virtually any county/state Veteran's Affairs/Service office. If the vet is still alive, he/she needs to sign it; if not alive, some kinship must be shown before the record extracts can be provided. Two points merit consideration: (1) there were a number of primarily WWII and post-WWII records destroyed in a fire in St. Louis in the early 70's, so that could pose a problem; (2) the records center is understaffed, so response may take some time. That's why it's important to provide them with all available information, ideally with service/serial numbers (can usually be found in discharge records or virtually any military documents held by the vet or family member). Also, many counties allowed/allow vets to file (for free) copies of their discharge papers, DD214's and like documents - this was especially true after WWII -- so a search of County Recorder or Superior Court files can frequently turn up these documents with a LOT of pertinent information beyond military service, e.g., birthdates, birthplaces, parents, ages, occupations prior to joining, etc., etc.. Would be willing to assist in interpretation of military papers, as I've done a LOT of that, in conjunction with my 30 years in the USAF, plus family research, plus military history writing. Hello all; Records from Newport, R.I. show: The congregational Church on the West side of the River, Marriage Records on page 220 William Snow of Providence married Susannah 20-Jun-1779. Also from records of Newport, the Second Congregationa; Church shows on page 452, Dr Ezra Styles Record of Births and Deaths: Snow, John of William and Susannah born 16-Oct-1783 David of William and Susannah born 16-Oct-1783 I am seeking information about Susannah. Hello Gary: I reread you earlier e mail and noticed that you have a Rachel Melvina Slusher. Do you know her family? I have a Great Aunt who married the son of John Slusher who is the son of William & Serena Slusher from VA. William had a brother George also from VA, they came through MO and on to AR in the early 1850's. I am in the process of checking with Wilbur Taylor but i believe you are right because I remember the name Leacy Snow. William Snow, the oldest direct Snow I have found to date, was born about 1801 in North Carolina. We think his father's name was James or Isaac. They end up in Pendleton Co, KY. Can anyone help me to connect him to a family in NC. We found in the 1784 - 1787 state census of North Carolina there is a James Snow in Caswell County, North Carolina listed with five white females. In the federal census of 1800 a James Snow is listed in Craven County, North Carolina with two sons and two daughters ages 0 - 10, one son 11 - 16, two daughters 17 - 26, himself and wife over 45. No James Snow shows in any more census in North Carolina during what would be his normal life span. On May 30, 1808, June 28, 1809, and again in 1811 a James Snow is listed as an "Early Kentucky Householder" . This book is about Lincoln County pioneers and is one of the original three counties in Kentucky. Between 1816 and 1819 listed as owing money to a store keeper in Clermont County, Ohio there is a James Snowe, Isaac Snowe, Jonathan Snowe, and Elizabeth Snowe. Clermont County is across the Ohio River from Pendelton County, Kentucky. (We know Our Snow family was in Clermont Co in 1850's for a short time but haven't proof the early Snow's are ours.) By 1818 a James Snow is listed as paying tax on live stock in Pendleton County, Kentucky. In 1819 an Isaac Snow is listed as paying tax on livestock in this same county. In 1820 James, Isaac, and William are listed as tax payers in Pendleton County. This William is mine and James signs in 1820 on marriage bond for William to Mary McPherson. Hi Sara: I think there was a William in every Snow family and my old Wm named his first son Wm. and he died and he named his last son Wm. I show a William 1784-1866 son of Ebenezer & Sarah Wicker Snow who marr. Mahala Braswell had a son Samual b. 1832 in Tn. I have another Samual b. 1847 marr. Elmira Taylor in Newton Co AR. son of Solomon & Mary Coe Snow. This probably does not help you at all. Juanita
