    1. [SNOW-L] SNOW, Silas ~ 1738-1793
    2. rancher
    3. Hi, Here is a little more on Elisha Snow's child Silas. Jeanne Reference The Stephen Hopkins Family Generation V in Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Volume Six, Second Edition. Pp 313-314. Silas Snow, born Duck Creek, Kent County, Delaware about 1738; died there 1793. He married Elizabeth Paxton, who predeceased him; otherwise unidentified. Silas Snow was mentioned as brother of Joshua and thus son of Elisha in administration of Joshua's estate on November 9, 1744. Silas was not mentioned in Elisha's will of 1744. Silas Snow, son of Elisha, deceased, was one of the residuary grantees in a conveyance of May 16, 1752 by his half-brother James Snow of Duck Creek Hundred, conveying the family premises to their mother, widow Elizabeth Snow, for her lifetime. A survey of 53 acres was made March 30, 1771 at the request of Silas Snow, son of Elisha Snow, and according to Turner's Delaware Notes, the document was later owned by descendant Joseph Snow of Raymond's Neck, Delaware. On February 11, 1761, Silas Snow was named executor under the December 29, 1760 will of his brother John. Silas was named co-administrator with Elizabeth Raymond of the estate of John Raymond, yeoman of Duck Creek, on December 14, 1771. Administration of the estate of William Snow Jr. of Duck Creek was granted to Silas Snow, "next of kin," on September 7, 1775. Silas was named guardian and executor under the May 15, 1776 will of Samuel Whitman of Little Creek, Kent County, Delaware and under the will of Gilbert Barrow of Duck Creek, Kent County, Delaware dated August 15, 1781. He was named a trustee under the December 15, 1789 will of Elizabeth Goldsmith, widow of John, of Kent County. By disposition of January 14, 1793, Mary Raymond (formerly Mary Snow) named her heirs as father Silas Snow and sister Phebe Snow. Silas Snow served in the Revolution from Delaware with rank of Lieutenant. He was captured as a prisoner of war May 4, 1778 and was billeted August 12, 1778 at Flatbush, Long Island, New York. He served as State Senator from Kent County, Delaware in 1784 and as a member of the State House of Representative in 1790. The will of Silas Snow of Kent County, Delaware, dated October 22, 1793 and proved November 6, 1793, mentioned sons George, Silas and Joseph Snow; son John Snow, alias Jones (son of Susannah Jones, spinster); son James Snow, alias Wallace, (son of Elizabeth Wallace, spinster), and daughter Phebe Snow ("not yet 18"). Sons John and James were named executors. John Snow, eldest son of Silas Snow, deceased, was appointed guardian of Phebe Snow, daughter of Silas (apparently age over 14) and of George, Joseph and Silas Snow sons of Silas (all age under 14). Children (SNOW) order uncertain; first by Susannah Jones; second by Elizabeth Wallace; reminder apparently by wife; all probably of Kent County, Delaware: 1. John (alias Jones) 2. James (alias Wallace) 3. Mary married ? Raymond 4. Phebe born about 1778; probably unmarried 5. George 6. Silas 7. Joseph born about 1788; married Sally Maree; he resided at Duck Creek Hundred in 1850.

    1. [SNOW-L] Snow, Elisha ~ 1682 - 1752 Massachusetts, Delaware
    2. rancher
    3. Reference The Stephen Hopkins Family Generation IV pp.74-75 of the Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Second Edition. Elisha Snow, b. Eastham January 10, 1686/7; died Duck Creek, Kent Co. Delaware between January 15, 1744 and February 8, 1752. First wife probably dead by July 1737. Second wife, Elizabeth Redman <Redmond, Radmond>, married probably in Kent County, Delaware not long after July 20, 1737. Elizabeth was alive May 16, 1752; daughter of John Redman. Elisha Snow moved in 1711 from Cape Cod to Duck Creek <now Smyrna>, Kent County, Delaware with his brother Isaac and other families of Chatham. On January 14, 1712/13 he and Isaac bought 199 acres on the north side of the Southwest branch of Duck Creek, being the plantation on which they then resided. The site was still occupied by descendants in 1888. Isaac Snow conveyed his interest in the premises to Elisha on May 4, 1722. Elisha bought his brother John’s land at Duck Creek by deed of November 11, 1734, brother Isaac serving as witness. On July 10, 1737 Elisha gave “after death” 199 acres to be divided between son James Snow and Elizabeth Redmon, the conveyance witnessed by John Snow and Isaac Snow. Ten days later he gave a tract of equal size “after death” to his sons Elisha, Joshua and Jesse Snow. On the same day Elisha Snow gave 246 acres to Elizabeth, daughter of John Redman, the conveyance to take effect after Elisha’s death, provided Elizabeth marry him. The last two conveyances were also witnessed by John Snow and Isaac Snow. Elisha Snow was named administrator of the estate of his son Joshua on November 9, 1744, the record mentioning Joshua’s brothers Elisha, James, Jesse, Silas and John. Elisha Snow was named administrator of the estate of Thomas Young, yeoman of Kent County on February 20, 1729. He was also mentioned in the will of Thomas Sharp, yeoman of Kent County, dated November 18, 1729. He witnessed the will of his brother John, dated October 9, 1738. By deed of May 16, 1752 James Snow of Duck Creek Hundred conveyed to widow Elizabeth Snow the 199 acres on which she was living, for her lifetime, and then to John, Silas and Phoebe Snow, children of Elisha Snow, deceased. Also included in the deed was a tract of 249 acres which Elisha Snow in his lifetime had purchased from James. The will of Elisha Snow of Duck Creek, Kent County, Delaware dated January 15, 1744 and proved February 8, 1752, mentioned wife Elizabeth and sons Elisha, James and Jesse. William Snow was a witness. Children (SNOW) form estate and land records. Probably first four born in Kent County, Delaware by first wife and last three by second wife: 1. Elisha, born about 1713 2. James born about 1715 3. Joshua born about 1717; died probably Duck Creek Kent County, Delaware before November 9, 1744 when administration of his estate was granted to father Elisha Snow. 4. Jesse born about 1719; mentioned in father’s will of January 15, 1744/5 and as heir of brother Joshua in same year. 5. Silas born about 1738 6. John born about 1740; died probably Duck Creek, Kent County, Delaware between December 29, 1760 and February 11, 1761. John’s will of first date mentioned sister Phebe Snow and brother Silas Snow, executor. 7. Phebe born about 1742; mentioned in will of brother John Snow, dated December 29, 1760

You can get some information on it at the following url: http://members.aol.com/calebj/mayflower.html Mr. Johnson does give some new information at this web site, but for the full story you will have to purchase a copy of the article or get a subscription to the magazine itself. Neither do any of the Bridgewater births. Nor do the marriage partners match. Sorry. Kathleen

    1. [SNOW-L] SNOW, HUBBARD, McCOON, ALLEN; RI, 1750-1800
    2. I am seeking ancesotors of a REBECKAH SNOW b. Oct. 1, 1793 possibly Providence, RI. Marr. May 30, 1815 at Broadalbin, NY to Thomas F. Palmer. She died LaSalle Co. IL 1854. We believe that she had a brother Samuel Snow, as she & Thomas are listed living next to him in 1820 Warsaw, Wyoming Co., NY census. Rebeckah named her children, all born NY 1816-1828, rather unusual names: Margaret McCoon Palmer, Lydia Hubbard Palmer, Chloe Allen Palmer, Joseph Snow Palmer. These were not names on her husband's side . . . so we think the names given to her children may relate to her parents or grandparents. Please keep this note and if your meanderings find anything, I would appreciate hearing. Thank you very much. Peter Burrows, Annapolis, MD
