Lewis M. Snow appeared on tax lists of Crawford Co., AR in 1840 and 1841. Apparently he was single and living in the household of a James F. Snow, probably the father. Also in that household were Randolph Snow, Henry Snow, and Eli Snow, among other as yet unidentified Snows. Henry, Eli, and Lewis moved from Crawford Co. AR to Lamar Co., TX. Lewis M. Snow was md in Lamar Co. TX to Elizabeth Schoonover on Aug. 8, 1842, but does not appear on subsequent censuses there. However, an "S.M." Snow was assessed a poll tax in Lamar Co. in 1846 - we expect this is another mis-transcription of "L.M." - i.e. we think it was Lewis M. Snow. A land abstract record #979 exists for a Lewis M. Snow in Hunt Co., TX; perhaps he moved there from Lamar Co., though we have not examined records there. We could find no date for this abstract, nor what it was about or for. Does anyone know what happened to Lewis M. and Elizabeth (Schoonover) Snow after 1846?? Dan Page dpage@ipa.net
Elizabeth Riggs md Henry Snow, date unknown, and they "moved to Georgia," per notes on descendants of Samuel Riggs, who lived in Surry Co., NC about 1760-1790. Anyone know which Henry Snow of Surry Co. NC this was? Was it the one who settled in Lincoln Co. TN before 1820?? Anyone know where in GA he went, or anything about his children?? Dan Page dpage@ipa.net
An Edward Snow born about 1823 TN married in Lincoln Co., TN to Mahaley Mattox, on Oct. 26, 1848. Had a son Daniel Stewart Snow. Mahaly's parents were Michael and Ruth (Bryan) Mattox. Edward and Mahaley appear on the 1850 census in Giles Co., Tennessee as Edmund age 37 born TN, Mahala 25 TN, Daniel S. 1. Also in the household are Malissa 21, Elizabeth 27, and David 16. Edmond Snow signed a will Jun. 25, 1875 which was proven in Lincoln Co. Aug. 31, 1875. It named his wife Mary E. D. Snow, son D. S. Snow, and a Mrs. Jane Snow. We suspect he was the Edward Snow who appeared on the 1850 census of Giles Co. Tennessee with wife Mahala and a son Daniel S. Does anyone know the parents or grandparents of this Edward (or Edmond)?? This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html

Researching surname of wife (first name is Mary/Polly) of Dudley SNOW b. 1784 to Joseph Snow & Hannah Chubb. First name of wife is found on death certificate of son Abijah R Snow. Her bp is listed as Massachusetts. Possible that marriage occurred in that state. This is not the Dudley Snow who married Almira Stockbridge. The two Dudleys have been mixed up for years since the Boston Transcript mixed up and subsequent researchers didn't check out the facts. FYI: Dudley and Almira (Stockbridge) Snow lived in Richmond County, NY in 1850 & 60. Subsequently purchased land in New Jersey and died there. . Patricia J Morgan halpatmorgan@earthlink.net
Come on Terri, be a "Snow Queen" and share the recipe with all of us "Snow Flakes!" Hugh in Dallas
This may be old news, but the latest edition of "The old Farmers Almanac" year 2000 edition has an article on family reunion favorite recipes and the Snow family of North Carolina is featured predominately. There is even a little note about family sense of humor in names - i.e., Frost And Snow and Ice And Snow. Coincidentally, just that morning before reading the article, I went out and bought polish sausage because I was craving that very recipe that is listed for the Snow family. My mother used to fix souerkraut and polish sausage, but I've never fixed it my whole adult life. Even more interesting, my mother's great-grandfather was a Snow and his family came from North Carolina to Indiana, but we've never been able to connect to the Frost Snow families. Maybe this recipe is a clue that perhaps we are connected. Terri
I'm searching for information on the origins of my gggrandfather, William Snow, who was born in South Carolina about 1803. He moved in his youth (possibly with his parents) to Madison County, Alabama, where he married Mary Clapp. They reportedly lived with the Cherokees in northeast Alabama during the 1820's. Shortly before 1830, they relocated to Calloway/Graves County, Kentucky. During the Civil War, they moved north to Illinois, returning to Kentucky afterwards. William and Mary had eight children: Calvin Neely Snow, Eliza Jane Snow Alexander, John Washington Snow, William Pitman Snow, Green P. Snow, Francis Marion Snow, Sylvester Franklin Snow, and Mary E. Snow. William and Mary are reported to have converted to the LDS Church near the end of their lives. We have no information on when or where they died. Any information that anyone can add to the above, particularly leads on William's forebears, would be very welcome. Tom Snow

In the unpublished typed manuscript titled: The Richard Snow Family, complied by, George Burwell Snow, D.D.S. with copies of the manuscript placed in several libraries by his wife about 1923. The manuscript, unfortunately contains no documentation, but I've found in using it, there is a high degree of acuracy. Great pathfinder leading you to seek out the actual sources. I'm compiling a brief biography of Frank SNOW, for a reference book to be published in 2001, & I'm hoping someone on the list has heard of him. Frank (b. abt 1849 or 1850, in MS) was the son of Mark (b. abt 1797, in NH) and Derend (b. abt 1803, in MS). He lived in Hinds Co., MS, 1850-1920. Does Frank sound familiar to anyone? Apparently he had a cousin, Frank SNOW, in NY; I'd appreciate information about him, too. I'd be grateful for any information anyone can give me, & will happily share what information I've found. Woodbridge NJ 1787 & removed with his parents to NY shortly thereafter. Served War of 1812 under Capt Isaac Wilson in Churchill's NY Militia Thomas & Rebeckah married May 30, 1815 at Broadalbin, Montgomery Co., NY. In my possession is a ladder back, rush seat rocking chair given to them as a wedding present. By 1818 they had moved to Warsaw, Genesse Co. NY, where Thomas operated a grist mill with his father, Ephraim Palmer (1760-1852). In 1820 census T&R are in Warsaw, and live next door to Samuel Snow, who also has small children. I have assumed this Samuel to be brother of Rebeckah. Does anyone have any connection or line to this Samuel Snow? This could be a huge help. T&R's first five children are b. Warsaw. By August of 1823 they have moved to Conewango, Catteraugus Co. NY, where their last child (my g. grandfather) is born, and Thomas becomes a school teacher. In May 1832 T&R purchased abt 80 ac. land near Chatham, Medina Co. OH. Their six children, dates and spouses are: Margaret McCoon Palmer b. Mar 1, 1816, d. May 24, 1834, bur. Medina Co. All desc. known. With the exception of Ephraim, none of Thomas & Rebeckah's children's names are on the Palmer side. So it seems to me that the names of their children are from the Snow side and surely should shed a clue on the names of Rebeckah's parents. Was her father's name Joseph? Or maybe Samuel, as we are fairly certain that she had a brother, Samuel. Was her mother's maiden name McCoon, Hubbard, or Allen? It would almost seem that it must be one of the three. Ideas and thoughts welcome, and if anyone doing Snow research comes upon some clues please let me know. We have named our first daughter: Rebeckah Snow Burrows . . . and such a shame that her namesake is lost. Peter Burrows, Annapolis, MD
Hello: I am trying to find members of the Snow Family who would have Simeon Sampson Snow who married Judith Dudley in Surry Co. NC abt 1834/39. They left NC and migrated to Mo and then finally Fremont County Iowa by 1846. I am also seeking Snow Family members who would have this Fielding Snow who married E. Jane Bodenhamer dau of D and G. Bodenhamer, they married in Surry Co. NC 1850's and migrated to Fremont Co. Iowa by 1858. I feel these two snow families are closely related as the Sampson Snow family had a son named Fielding Snow. Both Snow families lived in Fremont Co. Iowa and both are buried in the same cemetery. I am indirectly connected to the above families. But would like to contact anyone who is a member of the Snow Family, if nothing else to pass on info of their children and where they were laid to rest. Sincerely, Nancy M. Boyd
Is anyone on this list familiar with a SNOW genealogy, "The Descendants of Nicholas Snow and Constance Hopkins", done in 1970 by Corinne A. and Frank W. Snow? It is completely handwritten, about an inch and a half thick. I have borrowed it from someone, and must soon return it. Is it available for purchase? Are the authors still alive? How valid is their work? They seem to have a lot of information I haven't seen elsewhere, but it is almost completely unsourced. It would take me a couple of hours at a copy machine to get my own, and I'd rather have an updated copy, if available. By the way, I'm still looking for my lost SNOW ancestors, Harvey b. 1816 in NY or VT, and his son Adelbert born about 1854 in VT.
Looking for Uriah Snow of Staughton/Sharon Ma. He was born c. 1755. His son Jedidiah was born in 1785 in Staughton.
