Hi all I need some help. I am looking for info. on a John SNOW he was living in Barron Co. KY in the 1810, 1830, 1840 and 1850 census The 1810 census I sure is the father of the John L. SNOW in the 1850 census 1810 SNOW, John 1---1 -111 1830 SNOW, John 2---1----------1---1-------- 1840 SNOW, Jno L --2--1----------2----1------ 1850 Barren Census - District 1 Family/Dwelling 1068/1093 SNOW, John L 47m b. 1803 Barren Co. KY Elizabeth 50f KY (Akers) Abner 25m KY Lovanza D 23m KY Irene 18f KY Firtina 15f KY Elizabeth 11f KY I had always though my husbands line was Abner H. SNOW but I have been looking into John L. SNOW'S of Barren Co. KY. They both had sons with the name Abner but 10 years apart. A family member told me we descendant from Abner & Catherine Snow he was from Barren Co. KY She send me census of Abner H. in the 1850 census so I assumed this was the right line. Now I not so sure it could be we descendant from John L. SNOW. Has anyone heard or know of John SNOW of Barren Co. KY have not found him after the 1850 census. I found Abner and Catherine Snow in the 1860 census of Newton Co. Jackson, TWP.of AR I have found a Mahala SNOW d.1851 Barren Co. KY and married to a David Boylston don't know how they connect yet. Hope someone can help me. Rebeckah Snow b. Oct 1, 1790 Providence RI Names of her parents unknown. I think her father's name may have been Joseph . . . only because she named her first son Joseph Snow Palmer. Rebeckah's parents apparently moved to RI to NY sometime between 1790-1815 and she married May 30, 1815 at Broadalbin, Montgomery Co. NY (in 1838 this became Fulton Co.) to Thomas Force Palmer (b. 1787 NJ) whose family had come to Galway, Saratoga Co. NY. These two towns are a very short distance apart. Thomas F. Palmer (I have extensive info on his family & ancestors) & Rebeckah Snow died and are buried at Prairie Center, LaSalle Co. IL 1865 & 1854 and had six children, all born in NY . . . . Margaret McCoon (sp?) Palmer b. 1816 prob. Galway NY. died unmarr Chatham, Medina Co, OH 1832 Lydia Hubbard Palmer b. 1817 NY marr 1839 Orrin Gridley prob. Chatham OH. She died 1903 poss Clear Lake IA. I have names of her children and am researching (with difficulty) her descendants. Joseph Snow Palmer, b. 1819 at Warsaw, Genesse Co. NY (in 1841 this became Wyoming Co), marr. OH 1845, bur at Prairie Center, IL. I have names of his children and am researching descendants, with some luck. Eliza Ann Palmer b. 1822 at Warsaw. Marr 1841 Lorin A. Williams. Both died IA. All desc. have been traced. Chloe Allen Palmer b. 1825 at Warsaw. Marr 1854 Noah Post. All desc. have been traced. Ephraim Milo Palmer b. 1828 Conewango, Cattauragus Co. NY. marr Prairie Center IL 1858 Sarah H. Butler. All desc. have been traced. No desc. so far located know anything of their Palmer/Snow ancestors this far back. None of the above children's names except for Ephraim seem to relate in any way to the family of Thomas F. Palmer, so I believe the other children's names could relate to Rebeckah Snow's ancestors. So I have struggled with the source of these names, hoping that they would provide clues to the names of Rebeckah's parents. So far not too much luck. Still, I remain convinced that they must relate to Rebeckah's ancestors. I found in the 1820 Warsaw NY federal census, living next door to Thomas F. Palmer and his wife, Rebeckah Snow Palmer is SAMUEL SNOW. He has a wife and small children. I have assumed that this Samuel was a brother of Rebeckah. I have yet to find anyone possibly desc. from this Samuel Snow who is listed in the 1820 Warsaw census. And so briefly that is about all that I know. I went to Providence RI and did research into the family of William Snow, a resident there with an extensive family history at the Prov. Historical Society, but this search did not bear fruit at this point, though his line could be the one. I think there is a connection of this William Snow to Hopestill Alden, the gr. dau of John Alden of Mayflower. There is another Nicholas Snow also with Mayflower connections by marriage to Constance Hopkins who came on Mayflower with her father Stephen. I am unsure at this point, and no family records I have ever make any mention of Rebeckah being a Mayflower descendant . . . but there is really almost no mention of her, so that means little. Further ideas are welcome. Peter Burrows, Annapolis MD (800) 521-6211.
Linda, The daughter Mahala Snow is very unlikely to be the one who md David Boydstun. Here's some notes: !Spurious, unproven accounts claim that Mahala was the daughter of Jabez and Elizabeth (Paine) Snow of Eastham, Massachusetts, apparently based only on the coincidence that they named a daughter Mahala. !Samuel Boydstun of Alabama, a grandson of David, had in his notes that David's wife was Mahala Snow. No marriage records have been found. Mahala was probably the daughter of John Snow and Elizabeth Hudson of Somerset Co., Maryland. See Old Somerset Co. on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, by Clayton Torrence, pg. 446. WFT tree 1781, CD 8, shows Elizabeth Hudson had a sister Violetta and a brother Richard, all three children of Nickolas and Elizabeth (Freeman) Hudson. !WFT CD 42 tree #1288 carries Mahala's ancestors further, showing her the daughter of John Snow born abt 1686 died Dec. 17, 1705, and Elizabeth Hudson born 1671. John Snow is shown as the son of Nicholas Snow. Elizabeth Hudson is shown as the daughter of Nicholas Hudson born 1643 died Jan. 1675/76 and Elizabeth Freeman born 1647. Nicholas Hudson is shown as the son of Richard Hudson born 1608 England died 1659 Accomack, Virginia, and Mary Hayes born about 1610 died about 1670. No proof or sources were provided for any of this information, and we have not verified any of these claims. !The Boylston family lived first on the Choptank River in Talbot Co., then in Dorchester Co. Maryland on the west branch of the Nanticoke River which empties into Fishing Bay, which was just next to Somerset Co. !Maryland Marriages 1634-1777, by Barnes, reveals several marriages between those in Dorchester Co. and nearby Somerset Co., Maryland. So far as I know, no one has found a record of the spouse of the Mahala Snow who was daughter of Jabez and Elizabeth Snow. Incidentally, Elizabeth's maiden name has been reported as Paine, but also as Smith. I haven't attempted to verify either. A 1670 marriage record in Barnstable Co., MA, if available, might settle that. They were reported to have had a son named Jabez who had a son Silvanus Snow, but I haven't attempted to verify that either.
