    1. [SNOW] Update your AV software Now ! ( I mean right now) ( 12-19-2001
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: This is a one-time heads up notice. There are 3 new and one oldie and toughie virii out "in the wild" Three are rated level 2 and one is rated level 1 ( low risk) Please don't start numerous threads on the mailing list on this subject. If there are more warning please send direct to me for checking. Lets keep these lists focused on genealogy. If you get an infected message from someone then let me know so they can be removed temporarily from the list. All the AV software companies have updated their databases. Norton just released their latest updates this morning and could be more soon. A: Get your virus definitions updated as of today ( and everyday) B: They are purely an attachment virus ( so simpler to handle) "don't open attachments" Let's get ahead of this one and avoid the mess we had two weeks ago :-) See the following AV web pages describing the three http://www3.ca.com/Virus/ http://vil.nai.com/vil/ http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/ http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/ http://vil.mcafee.com/newVirus.asp Best Regards John A Hansen List Admin.

    1. [SNOW] Re: Adopted Snow children
    2. My grandfather, Willard S. Snow and his sister Maude Snow were placed in "The Home For the Friendless" in Atlanta sometime between 1898 and 1910. The story goes their mother (maybe named Henrietta) came to see them once and was never heard from again. The orphanage burned and only two journals remain (not listing them). The two show up on the 1910 Census for Schley Co. Georgia as adopted and living with Frederick Rainey. Mr. Rainey was Thomas Frederick Rainey of Ellaville, Schley Co. Ga. and a member of Legislature at the time. Turns out Willard Snow married Mr. Rainey's grandaughter, so my grandfather was raised by my grandmother's grandfather.... such is genealogy. As far as I know Maude Snow married a man named Knox Hale. The only information other than that is Willard Snow was born approx 1898. An according to his tale, he made up his middle initial. If anyone can give me any leads it would be a big help. My sister and I have exhausted all avenues of search, including no records being found of the adoption. Regards, Linda Snow Davis

My ancestor Notley Masters came to Surry Co., N.C. from Maryland.

I have little information on Caroline/Sally Snow. She was born bet. 1822 - 1824 in NY state. She married Elisha P. Boswell abt. 1839 in NY and died in 1853 at Mendon, Monroe County, NY. Her son Marshall Eugene Boswell wound up in Rock/Walworth County, WI when the Civil War broke out. Upon his return from the war he stayed with his uncle E.S. Snow in Hebron, Rock County, WI and later with his grandmother Snow (no first name) to recouperate. I have to assume that the WI Snows moved from NY just before the war. Hoping to find some ties. Now you know what I know.

    1. [SNOW] REBECKAH SNOW (1790-1854) RI-NY-IL.
    2. I continue to seek information about REBECKAH SNOW. She is name sake of our daughter, and was my grandfather's grandmother. Beyond that I know little, most particularly names and info of her parents is unknown. Additional details are: Rebeckah Snow was born at Providence RI on Oct. 1, 1790 (d. 1854 IL). Her father may have been Joseph Snow, likely b. ca. 1765 +/- She probably had a brother Samuel Snow. Sometime before 1815 her family moved to Galway NY or vicinity, and she was married May 30, 1815 at Broadalbin, NY to Thomas F. Palmer (1787-1865) Their five children were all b. NY: Margaret McCoon (sp?) Palmer b. 1816 prob. Galway NY. died 1834 unmarr Chatham, Medina Co, OH 1832 Lydia Hubbard Palmer b. 1817 NY marr 1839 Orrin Gridley prob. Chatham OH. She died 1903 poss Clear Lake IA. I have names of her children and am researching (with difficulty) her descendants. Joseph Snow Palmer, b. 1819 at Warsaw, Genesse Co. NY (in 1841 this became Wyoming Co), marr. OH 1845, died 1892, bur at Prairie Center, IL. I have names of his children and am researching descendants, with some luck. Eliza Ann Palmer b. 1822 at Warsaw. Marr 1841 Lorin A. Williams. Both died IA. All desc. have been traced. Chloe Allen Palmer b. 1825 at Warsaw. Marr 1854 Noah Post. D. 1894. All desc. have been traced. Ephraim Milo Palmer b. 1828 Conewango, Cattauragus Co. NY. marr Prairie Center IL 1858 Sarah H. Butler. All desc. have been traced. Ephraim was the name of Thomas F. Palmer’s father. I have struggled with the source of these names, hoping that they would provide clues to the names of Rebeckah's parents. So far not too much luck. None of the above children's names except for Ephraim relate in any way to the family of Thomas F. Palmer, So I remain convinced that children’s names must relate to Rebeckah's ancestors. Only the last, Ephraim, has a Palmer related name on the husbands side. So I surmise that the names of her 1st son, and three daughters must have been on Rebeckah's parent's side; possibly her mother or either/both of her grandmothers, etc. 1820 census, Warsaw, Genessee Co., NY Rebeckah and her husband and small children are listed next door to Samuel Snow, also with wife and small children. Anyone on the list have anything which might connect to the above? Peter Burrows, Annapolis, MD

    3. 12/17/01 To: The Snow Family Membership From: Christopher Hartman - Rare Genealogies Good afternoon. Please excuse the unsolicited posting, but I thought since this is really an exceptional copy of a very scarce book, I would bring it to the attention of the Snow family membership: [SNOW]. Snow, Bess and Jack Rencher, illus. History of Levi and Lucina Streeter Snow Family. [Np., Privately Printed, Nd., but ca.1948]. Tall 4to. Pp. 106. Illus. titlepage. Profusely illus. throughout with portraits, images of domiciles and views. Typescript bound in comb binding, cased in decoratively illustrated book cloth. Ex-library copy, with only the most discreet and occasional library stamps. Very light wear to extremities, otherwise very good copy of what is certainly a scarce title. Details the ancestry and history of the Snow and Streeter families, from their origins in England and their migration to and across America, with narrative passages, genealogy, biography, &c. Includes a bibliography in the rear. It utilizes a multitude of sources, some published, others not previously published. An interesting and informative book and scarce. $75.00 As it is rather uncommon, I must offer it subject to previous sale. Delivery is complimentary. Please advise if of interest. With appreciation for your attention and advance thanks for your consideration, I am, Sincerely, Christopher Hartman Green House 391 Vernon Street Wakefield, Massachusetts 01880 Tel. 781-224-9808 email: raregenealogies@yahoo.com raregenealogies@hotmail.com web: http://www.raregenealogies.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: SNOW Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FaIBAIB/1678.2 Message Board Post: Jami, You have been able to learn the names for several generations. That's a good start. (You wrote your line was: James Snow, son of Milton Snow, son of Urban Snow, son of Austin Snow) Might you have any other information about these ancestors -- especially places they lived, when born and died, marriages -- that will help others to make a connection? If you know where people lived, once you get back to someone who was born before 1920 you can look them up in a census. Also, if you know where some are buried you can check the cemetery records and also try to find an obituary in the newspaper from wherever they lived. There are a lot of other records that you can check. Some of them are on the Internet and some are not. Don't forget to talk to people in your family who are older than you. They sometimes can clear up what puzzles you. They also might have interesting stories to share and family memorabilia to show you. Don't forget to keep information you learn about siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and children for each generation as you go back. Also, be sure to keep good records. Later you might need to know just where you got information -- especially if you find that there's a disagreement about some information you had recorded. Remember too that the name you are researching are for people who are part of your family's history. Don't be content with just names and dates, try to find photos of them and collect stories about them. See if you can get to know them even though they may have died long before you were born. The above are tips I wish others had told me when I was beginning to learn about family history. I hope you find them of help. My husband's Snow ancestry goes back via two lines to a Frost Snow who lived in Virginia and his son Thomas who died in the Clinch River in 1818. If you ever see a connection to him, please let me know.
