12-23-01 Dear Snow List, I am looking for information on the parents/siblings of Benjamin Pleasant Snow. His parents are D. J. Snow and M. J. Duncan. Got the initials and maiden name of parents from a copy of Benjamin P. Snow's marriage license but I would like to know their first and middle names. D. J. Snow appears in the Sangamon County, IL 1850 and 1860 Census', but I have no idea where they were before or after that. Hope someone can shed some light on this for me. I have no record of any of Benjamin's siblings but would like to know if he had any. There is a Benjamin Snow that appears in the 1860 DeKalb County, IL Census but I'm not sure this is the same Benjamin P. Snow (although he was born in 1860). Here is the information I have so far on Benjamin Pleasant Snow: BENJAMIN PLEASANT SNOW--supposedly part Cherokee Indian--is my grandfather. (I have been unable to find any info so far supporting the claim he is of Native American descent) BORN: 16 JUN 1860 Springfield, Sangamon, IL MARRIED: Ida Mae (Putnam?) Hohimer on June 26, 1887 in Tice, Menard Co, IL. He had a hard time keeping a job because he was crippled (possibly from polio) so they moved around a lot. Because of his disability I doubt he was ever in the military. OCCUPATION: FARMER DIED: JUL 1963 PARENTS: D. J. Snow and M. J. Duncan (I don't know their first and middle names) Benjamin and Ida Mae (Putnam/Hohimer) Snow's 9 children: 1) Alice F. (born 1888, married Frank Pehlman) 2) Bertha N. (born Mar.27, 1890, never married, died in mental hospital May 1968 Jacksonville, IL) 3) Bessie Putnam/Elizabeth (my grandmother) (born Aug. 18, 1892 Decatur, IL, married James Harrison Judy July 19, 1919 in Springfield, IL, died Aug 22, 1980 in Hettinger, ND). Her original middle name was Putnam but she didn't like it so later changed it to Elizabeth. (Still trying to figure out the connection between her original middle name and Ida Hohimer's former last name of Putnam which we found in an obituary.) 4) Oliver Walter (went by the name Walter Higgins as an adult--born Aug. 17, 1897, married Molly Green--2nd wife--in Constantine, MI, died Jan.. ___, 1976 in Cary, _______, IL 5)Nathan (born Sept. 10, 1901, Married Betty _________.died Aug 9, 1988 in Oroville, CA, SS#561-18-9869) 6) Helen (born 1903) 7) Harry/Henry (born Sept 6, 1905, never married, died Jan 1975 in SC) 8)Anna (born May 2, 1906?, married John Redding, died Aug 1976, in Delphi, Carrol, IN) 9) James (died abt 9 months of age) Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. What I wouldn't give for a breakthrough on this family line that always seems to be a dead end! If you have any information at all, PLEASE E-mail me (Jo) at: graceamazd@aol.com THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
