    1. [SNOW] Zettie Snow
    2. Kathryn Sterk
    3. Family note reads-- Zettie's mother : Armilda Hackett ( probably Tackett) Zettie's step grandfather: John Emmet Snow Step grandmother: Jessie Melinda Poyner Snow Step great grandmother: Annie Poyner Zettie's father was William D. Snow ( son of John Boone Snow- family note reads he died in Oregon City). William D. Snow is listed in the Carroll County marriages with Rebecca Armilda Tackett. ( family note reads she died in OK) Can anyone explain why the note would be listing "step grandmother" and "step great grandmother"? William D. died in 1934 so the grandparents wouldn't be raising Zettie?????? I am confused, for sure. Any help on this one??? 1. [SNOW] Scottish Clan and Sept DNA testing proposals
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: There is an emerging interest in looking at the possibility of developing a database of the DNA markers for the Scottish Clans and Septs. The Scottish clans are very unique in that the Clans have been identified and family relationships tracked for hundreds of years. Some Clan family have documented histories stretching back to before 1000 AD ( and some back to 500AD) . So this leads to some interesting possibilities of identifying current clan and sept family members and determining if the Scottish ancestry line can be identified. Some have cautioned: be careful because you may find out that you are not who you think you are :-). Non-paternity events were as frequent then as they are now. There is also an interesting mailing list here on Rootsweb : Genealogy-DNA-L@rootsweb.com. It turns out that a couple of factors make this a very interesting study for the Clans to be involved in. A: The mtDNA passes down from mother to daughter only. So the matriarch of the family becomes clearly identified and traceable. Scottish history is one of the few in the world where female lineage was often documented. Note that non paternity events don't occur in this DNA since obviously the mother knows her daughter is her offspring. B: The Y DNA passes from father to son. There we can again provide a clear line of potential coordination between the written documentation and the DNA markers. There are some other fine points of the DNA identification and you can find out a lot more in the archives of the mailing list. Anybody that is really interested in participating should please reply to me at the email address below or reply to this message post. We need about 6-10 people for each group to make it meaninful. I will made arrangements to have this study posted as well. Please send or list only your surname , contact info and potential Clan association. I don't want to clog up the archives with a lot of "me too" emails and board posts. :-) Any comments or questions are appropriate to post. Someone will then contact you for further details and how to proceed. Please note there will probably be cost of some amount for the DNA test. I don't know what that amount is for the test but it is probably about $250. My initial survey indicates that we will want the 23 marker DNA test to get some definitive answers. I expect to get more details next week. Please feel free to pass this message along to other mailing lists and boards that may have a high per centage of Scottish Clan or Sept descendants. Should be an interesting database over the months and years :-) Was that my Chief ??? Best Regards John A Hansen jahansen@qwest.net Clan Board and List Admin

    1. [SNOW] Snow Collier Eastham Virus
    2. Dear friends: I do appreciate all of you responding as to the recent virus problem. I've learned some things about pesky viruses. Folks have indicated to me that Shell@ipa.netg is a fellow genealogist and a warm and respected individual, she was attempting to share some information she had about Collier Snow, who has been a dead end individual for many of us and somehow a virus got attached to her e-mail. I certainly feel bad should anyone feel it was Junita being an unkind person and certainly apologize to her. It could happen to any one of us. Very sorry for any confusion I might have caused on this and I appreciate the comments sent to me by fellow Snow List individuals.

    1. [SNOW] Snow, Collier Eastham Virus
    2. Hi all I received the virus  _Shell@ipa.net  concerning Collier Snow. My virus protector did not pick it up and so I deleted it.  I'm not very sophicated with this virus stuff.  Anybody out there that knows a bit would welcome advice? For example if your virus protector does not pick it up, how do you quarantine it? I use Norton. If you delete it into your recycle bin, and then delete it from your recycle bin is it gone and can't harm you. It is hard to understand how an individual becomes so sick that they get kicks out of harming folks interested in their family history. He or she must have not experienced the love most of us have enjoyed from our family relationship. Perhaps, we should all offer prayers that what ever is bothering this poor lost soul, they will find some comfort in this world.                                                Ernie

    1. [SNOW] RE: Virsu sent thru Snow-L
    2. To the list. I just got a virus and have deleted it. I received an email from someone who got my email from the following email address: _shell@ipa.net It had an attachment and the reason I clicked download was because I had posted a query on the Snow list and the email Subject was exactly what I had typed on my query and I just assumed someone was sending me a document in reference to that. the file name is w32.Badtrans.B@mm Norton could not repair it so I quarantined it and was able to delete it. I also sent the information to TOSEmail1@aol. It is ashame we can't even do genealogy without people who have nothing better to do. Linda Snow Davis
