Just came across this tonight, while searching for my 3rd Great-grandfather William J. Smothers. Missouri Confederate Soldiers Daniel Smothers Missouri, 4th Calvary, Company G (brother to William) William McSmithers Missouri, 4th Calvary, Company I, Sgt. I find it curious that upon searching for the surname McSmithers/McSmither that there is almost no McSmithers or McSmither any where, found one McSmither in Virginia, and one McSmithers a fictional character in Canada, wonder if this could also be another spelling of Smithers\Smothers.
