As an aside/connection to all this: Elizabeth Smothers, b 1818 TN, daughter of John, b 1791-92 NC, and Rebecca Smothers, was married to Thomas Reed. I do not have a date/place for the marriage, but it likely took place in TN. I wonder if Elizabeth's husband Thomas Reed is related to the sons/heirs mentioned in James Reed's will, below? The James Reed will seems to point to John Smothers, b 1791-92 NC, who married Rebecca as having a father named John.
