KINFOLKS by Evelyn Flood WILLIE NELSON'S NEWTON COUNTY CONNECTIONS. Did you know Willie Nelson's parents were married in Newton County? Ira NELSON 18 of Pindall and Myrle GREENHAW 17 of Pindall(Searcy Co) were married 6 September 1929 right there in Newton County. Ira was son of William Alfred NELSON and Nancy SMOTHERS. Myrle Greenhaw's parents were William Alex GREENHAW and Bertha REYNOLDS. William Alex and Bertha REYNOLDS GREENHAW are buried in Glencoe Cemetery, Searcy County, Arkansas. William Alex and Bertha had the following children: Earl George GREENHAW, Myrle, William Henry "Buck", Carl George and Sybil Edra GREENHAW. Bertha Reynolds Greenhaw's parents were James REYNOLDS ( RUNNELS\RANDLES) and Susan O'DANIEL. Bertha's sisters I have record of were Mary, Era and Lidie REYNOLDS(1900 Newton Co.Ark. Census-Prarie Township). Susan O'Daniel's parents William and Nancy ? O'DANIEL lived in Newton County from 1840s to 1900s. William O'Daniel, born 1800 in North Carolina, died December 1881 and is buried in Western Grove Cemetery,Newton Co. Mother Nancy was living with James and Susan REYNOLDS on 1900 Newton County census--it is unknown when and where Nancy ? O'Daniel died and is buried.William and Nancy O'DANIEL were also the parents of: Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Nancy Adeline, Martha E, Margaret, Matilda, and Lavina O'DANIEL. Ira and Myrle GREENHAW NELSON were parents of Bobbie Lee NELSON, born 1931 in Abbott, Texas and Willie Hugh NELSON, born 29 April 1933 in Abbott,Texas. In a recent TV interview, Willie stated he was raised by his grandmother (probably his NELSON grandmother). William Alex GREENHAW's parents were Daniel Gabriel GREENHAW and Lucy STANDRIDGE. They are both buried in Lurton Cemetery on Richland, Newton County,Arkansas. Their children besides William Alex GREENHAW, were Susie Jane GREGORY SHELTON, Mary Elizabeth BEARE, George William, Emily Tennessee HOOVER BLACK, John Henry and Ellen Arvilla EVERHART. My FLOOD children are descended from George W GREENHAW. and Margaret Lavina COOK.Many of my deceased husband's kinfolks still live in Newton County. My FLOOD children are related to many families. This is a labor of love. In tracing the so called "family tree", have found the tree to actually be a vine, curling back and forth, reaching many families, with marriages taking place in the same families a generation or two later. My father-in-law Lee Flood told me his kids could not marry in Newton County because they were related to almost every family---how true this turned out to be.
