Peter was born 1823 Sumner/Macon Co., TN, and is believed to be the son of Edmond SMOTHERS. It is known that Peter SMOTHERS had at least one wife prior 1869 (but details not proven). Also, it is known that Peter married (2nd or 3rd) to Ritha Senter, 1869 in Wayne Co., IL. Ritha was born abt 1844 in either TN or (less likely) IL and, it is not proven, but likely that Ritha was also married prior Peter. I am not sure what happened to Ritha after Peter's death in 1875, but she seems to have left IL by 1880. There is a record of an 1885 marriage between Ritha SENTER and Stephen RAY in Sumner Co., TN.
