Can anyone claim either of these Wm Smothers. They are not my line but various descendants of our Wm Smeathers folks have used their info on the DAR applications and they were approved! First application #14487-no date of birth. Resided in Orange County, VA.Private in Capt. Joseph Spencer's co, Col Edward Stephens VA regiment and at Battle of Longbridge at Norfolk, VA. Moved to Spotsylvania County. 2 years later enlisted and served 3 months in Capt. Bartlett VA co. discharged shortly before Cornwallis surrender then moved to KY performed services against Indians there. Allowed pension Feb 25, 1833 was in Boone Co, KY and 78 years old Died May 1, 1835. Second application # S17682- b. Dec. 22, 1741, Stafford Co., VA. Served under Col Stubblefield, Williams and lived in Stafford co for while then moved to Franklin Co, KY lived there 22 years, then went to Indiana where he died May 13, 1833.
