James Smothers b 1772 in Delaware (but lived in NC and TN) Died in War of 1812 near Mobile, AL; will recorded before death Wife: Margaret Summers, m 1795 in NC Father: thought to be Thomas Smothers Mother (or Step Mother): thought to be Susannah Gilliam Siblings of James Smothers: thought to be William, John, Thomas, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Sarah, & Mary; all these siblings were living in Orange Co., NC, about 1795, when their father died Surving court/land records show James Smothers and (brother?) William Smothers came to Sumner Co., TN, circa 1796, about the time that Tennesse first became a state. Thomas Smothers (James' brother?) was in Sumner Co., TN, about 1800; but moved to Franklin Co., IL, before 1818. John Smothers (James' brother?) remained in NC until shortly after 1800, at which time he seems to have moved to TN. James & Margaret (Summers) Smothers is the family line of our former list master, Pat Mullen (who seems to have disappeared into thin air!).
