Searching for ancestors of James Smothers b. ca. 1760. d. aft. 1840 Came from NC to Washington Co. KY and is on the 1799 tax list. He is listed in the 1810 Washington Co. KY census and the 1840 to Marion Co. KY census. Two sons, Daniel & David, came to Kentucky with him. No wife is mentioned. At David's death, his mother's name is given as Sarah. James later marries Freighner Sapp (Book I - pg. 101 Washington Co. Clerks Office) and has seven children. Because of John Hunt Morgan burning the Marion Co.
