BOOK LINKS: TENNESSEE'S FIRST SETTLERS & SOLDIERS, by Edward McAmis. This is an edited excerpt from the notice McAmis sent to his mailing list in August 2000 when TENNESSEE'S FIRST SETTLERS & SOLDIERS was published. It covers . . . circa 1770 to 1815 and primarily Greene County, Tennessee, although not entirely. The first index covers pages 1 through 670 and includes more than 3,500 surnames of the first settlers and soldiers to today's Greene County. The entire book has more than 10,000 surnames and when known I have included with each name in the first index, full name and spouse's name, issue, date of birth and death, and where each occurred, country of origin, nationality, religion, port of entry into the American Colonies and ships' names. I have entered some information on the first churches of these settlers in their original lands;special attention has been given to the wives of the settlers by placing their names right along with the alphabetized list of males using their maiden or married name, including their parents' names, if known, and any other early information I have. Other records included: early land and tax records; churches and cemeteries; collections of veterans of the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812; preachers;justices of the peace; also boundaries of the tax and militia districts, description of the civil districts and names of the settlers or descendants living on the borders of the districts.(Hardbound, 793 pp., index, published August 2000, $61 postpaid.ORDER FROM: Mrs. Eleanor McAmis [email protected] [Edward McAmis died 15 December 2000.
