I sent this to Bill and wanted to share it with the rest of the Smothers's, after seeing the results of the DNA tests I am inclined to think that my Andrew was married in England as research indicates. So I tried searching the IGI files for any Smothers before 1650, here are those results. The earliest I found was a Catherine Smothers born about 1550-1557, so we know that she probably got her surname from her father, I was not able to find anyone old enough to be her father. Perhaps the rest of you researchers can add to my findings. I calculated many of the birth dates from marriage records or christening records, it seems none of these children are listed as family groups, most are listed individually as children of Leonard, Thomas, John etc. I have not tried doing Smithers, etc. To give you some idea of how I did this, I took the nick name sheet that Helen Swenson provided and did a search using every one of the male and female names, these are the results. There may be many other records, but Family Search requires a First name and Last name when searching individual countries, if some one knows of another way please let me know.
