Smathers The Klickitat County Agriculturist, Goldendale, WA., November 26, 1903, page 4 "Klickitat Intelligence" CROSSED OVER THE GREAT DIVIDE - Mr. G.W. Smathers, a well known resident of the Spring Creek country, passed away a few days ago. Elder J.E. Adams, who officiated at the funeral writes to the AGRI.: Mr. Smathers was born in Haywood county, N.C., in 1841. When a young man he moved to Georgia, where he was married. There was born to this union two sons, Henry Smathers, now of Klickitat, and Smith Smathers, now residing in North Caroline. After the death of his wife, he married again, from which union there is two children. He and family came to Klickitat in 1900 to make their future home. In early life Mr. Smathers professed a hope in Christ and united with a Missionary Baptist church. He died at his home at Firwood, after a short illness, on Sept. 20th, the funeral taking place at the Spring Creek school house on Sept. 22nd, the interment taking place at the cemetery at that place. He leaves behind it, concludes Elder Adams, a beloved wife, three sons and one daughter, and a host of friends to mourn his absence. [HOME] © Jeffrey L. Elmer
