F 7th TN Calvary Florida has put their Civil War Veteran and Widow Pension Applications online http://dlis.dos.state.fl.us/barm/Pensionfiles.html I was checking out some of the Pittman/Pitman listings and ran across a Crockett Co. TN connection. Not sure how this Pittman fits into the Pittmans who were in the Gibson and Crockett Co. TN area. My Dekalb Co. TN Pittmans who had lived in Alabama around 1840 before moving on to Dekalb Co.TN(1850-1860)were migrating to Gibson Co. by 1880. I feel certain there must be a connection somewhere along the line. The site lists about 19 or so PDF files of J. A. Pittman's application which was filed over a period of years ending around 1911 as best as I can tell and I have extracted some of the info from them. J. A. Pittman who was living in Ocala Marion Co. Florida He enlisted in West Tenn in the Fall of 1862 in Clay's Co. F 7th TN Calvary J. G. Smothers & G. W. Moss were members of the regiment and at his time of filing they lived in Crockett Co. TN and filed an affidavit acknowledging that they were acquainted with him and that he had lived in Florida for about 25 years. J. A. Pittman is called James A. Pittman on a few of the records but mostly is referred to as J. A. Pittman. He states also in several parts of the document that he was born in Edgecombe Co. NC on Feb. 17 1839.
