NEAL, age 18, in the 1860 census of Ozark Co MO, with dau Nancy J. age 2. They were in the house of ____ OWENS, a blacksmith and his family. Most of the children in the house were named SMITH. So, I'm thinking the mother was md to a SMITH before she md the OWENS. But, why is Polly A. NEAL and dau Nancy J. living in the household? Could Polly's maiden name have been SMITH? What happened to Polly's husband, ____ NEAL? The census was before the Civil War, so where is he, if there was a spouse? Maybe NEAL is her maiden name and she used it or maybe she changed her name to NEAL from what????? When Nancy Jane NEAL???? md Ambrose DONELSON /DONALDSON she used the surname McNEIL or McNEAL. They were md about 1878. I have the marriage cert, but currently lost. Also on her death certificate (lost), her dau Sarah listed Nancy's father as Daddy McNeil /McNeal and mother as Polly Ann __. Also listed her birthplace as Dugginsville, MO. When Nancy md Ambrose, she was over 18 and Ambrose was about 16...his mother had to sign for them to marry. Ambrose's father was James DONALDSON / DONELSON. His mother's name was Malissa, I think, not sure about that. Nancy and Ambrose DONALDSON /DONELSON had 2 children Dan and Effie. Effie md a HART then a FRIEND or vice-versa. I heard Dan moved to Arkansas, Kansas. Don't know what happened to Effie. Nancy md EMC aka Elisha M. SMOTHERS and lived in AR. I haven't found a marriage cert in MO or AR for them. They had 3/4 girls and a boy. All dead now. On one of the daughter's obituary the maiden name of her mother, Nancy J. was NEAL. I hope someone can help me out with this tangled web I have. A lot is guesswork and a process of elimination. I love a good jigsaw puzzle.....but I like for the pieces to fall into place after a while. I believe that Polly Ann NEAL / McNEIL / McNEAL md a man by the surname of HENDERSON and think they may have had a son, Jimmy HENDERSON. This is circumstantial not proven.
