    3. From: "Noah Smothers" <nsmother@socket.net> Interesting all these names, one Edmund Scarborough was Administrator of John Smothers, will dated 28 October, 1650, Northampton County, Virginia, also the Custis family is here. I do not believe any of us have a copy of this John Smothers, will. We do have for the John Smothers who died 28 November 1687. The John who's will is dated 1650, is probably the father of John who died 1687, there is also a James Smothers that appears in 1684, 1685, 1687, 1688, and 1690, this James is not a son of the John who died in 1687, as James was not mentioned in John Smother's will of 28 March 1687. the information on John Smothers, and James Smothers was posted by Rick Thomas on January 26, 2003. November, 1672, John Smothers was judged to be 21 years old, Northampton County, Virginia, this John would have been born 1651, this could possibly be the John Smothers who died in 1687.Noah http://www.esva.net/ghotes/nhmaps/bottom1n.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Smothers/Smithier/Custis-My notes only.....Nena Smothers **The Beginning.......FIRST KNOWN SMITHER ** ENGLAND Will of John Smithier 1618 England Proven 1626 upon his death. I give/bequeath my lease of Camden unto my son-in-law Edmond Custis Cliffe and his son, John Custis." other names mentioned as its a long will are: Elizabeth, John's sister, Thomas Howse, son of his dau, Anne Howse, late of Colne Rogers, dec'd, Richard Howse, cousin Wm Howse, bro James Howse, Margaret Howse, sis Bridget Howse. 2. Karen, I have to begin by apologizing. The 'Cantrell' I know about is William Clarke Quantrill. He was the night rider, murderer ex confederate who led a group men during the Civil War and wrecked havoc in Missouri and especially Lawrence, Kansas. But one action I know about is when Quantrill led his 100 = men to a small central Missouri town called Centralia. It is half way begtween Kansas City & St Louis & on the main like of the rr. Quantrill & his men stopped a west bound train that had 40 + Union stldiers on it going on leave. He marched them into the fields close by Centralia and killed them. The only survivor was a guy named Tom Goodman who later wrote abook about the incedent. There are many books on Quantrill. I should have remembered it was not Cantrill. Sorry. Tom Goodman

Send me the name of the famous Cantrell and I'll check my database. Most of my Cantrell research came from a gentleman who has done extensive research on the Cantrell line. Many, many of the Cantrell men were military men throughout the years. Look forward to hearing from you! Karen Theofanides
