    1. [SMOTHERS] Familiar branch?
    2. Hi I was contacted recently by a young girl, trying to trace her Smothers roots. She initially found me because of my Smothers connection to Mountain Home, Baxter Co., in Arkansas. It seems that her descendant, George W. Smothers died there of suicide. His widow moved the family to Chandler, Oklahoma and that is about all that I can surmise from my exchanges with this young woman, Jean. I checked Social Security records and came up with a little data on her great uncles......but, that's about it. This branch should connect to Elisha M. (1800-1881).......just can't figure out where. My guess is that the George W. Smothers shown in the below chart, was probably born circa 1880? Any guesses, anyone? Descendants of George W. Smothers 1 George W. Smothers .. +Feeby Ann ? ......... 2 James Thomas Smothers ............. +? Butler .................... 3 Ethel Smothers b: 1947 ........................ +? Baker ......... 2 Creasie Smothers ......... 2 Vera Smothers ......... 2 Dock Smothers b: March 07, 1902 d: December 1984 in Edmond, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma ......... 2 Dorsey Smothers b: September 17, 1904 d: March 1984 in Agra, Lincoln Co., Oklahoma ......... 2 Eunice Smothers Also, in another note.......I have been in contact with a new Sinor researcher and she THINKS that she MAY have a photograph of Elisha Smothers, taken shortly before his death. I'll keep you updated on that. Bernie

    2. Wow.....Nena......that is VERY frustrating!!! I was talking to another DAR member the other day. She wants to file paperwork for yet another Rev. war ancestor. Someone several years ago filed paperwork on this same ancestor, with the WRONG info on the descendants. She is having a terrible time "righting the wrong" and my friend is the one who has many of the original documents needed for proof! She is the lucky soul whose grandmother was interested in family and kept every scrap of paperwork that had anything to do with family. I'm glad I'm not in that situation! Another note: I have heard that sometimes, the older DAR appl. were not scrutinized as closely as now, and that there are some errors in them. So nowdays, you really have to document your lines thouroughly. Good luck!!!! Karen

    3. ANY help is welcome...my cuz Deb and I have recently found out, thanks to a DAR app we have in possession of a past cousin...the dob and all military info for our missing Smithers is THAT of a BLACK Smithers who m. a Nancy Brown!!! yes, indeed...Noah and I discussed this long ago...and its indeed true...the dob for our missing Bill's father is this black Smithers dob and he lived to be 91 yrs old and in Dearborne, Ind...our Smithers [Bill's father] supposedly died by Indians in Va about 1770-1774[around 30 yrs old or so as Bill was suppose to be on 12yrs old when his father was killed and his mother, supposedly, died 9 days later from the shock of it????]...oh dear me...talk about real mess...we may NEVER be able to straigten this mess out to even get accepted by DAR ourselves. I do not understand how DAR did not find out this info anyway. Now we are not even sure when our Bill was born, much less his father's name..in a book written about him...his dad is called Henry and wife Mary...well, no one will lay claim to a Mary Hite Dubois marrying a Smithers....one stumbling block after another.....and on this DAR app we have, Bill's dad is ironically listed as a William Smithers sr...so thats probably where Bill being known as bill jr got tagged...oh dear me....and then another piece of work I just got from a library in TX, where our Bill died in 1837, his father is called GEORGE!!! bless my soul!..now try to unravel this mess of tangled webs someone has spun for us.....<smile>...trying!! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
