It started this past week, those lists that are on Rootsweb that are not being used are being taken down. So, if you have lists that you use now and then and do not want them to be taken down, how about sending a message to it now and then. If you have not found all your ancestors, write for help. If you do have all your ancestors, write with research clues and places to use on the internet that helped you. In the past, these have been good lists that helped me find my ancestors. Thanks, -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

As many may or may not know, since the middle of August, many of us did not receive any Rootsweb mail. Seems like AT&T and other email providers did not like all the anti-spam stuff that was put in our posts. While us list owners were told that first, it was ATT's fault and then that ATT had banned Rootsweb, the long and short of it is that ATT treated the anti-spam code as spam so didn't deliver any posts that had it in it to us. You may have noticed a few days ago, the links in the emails are now clean, without any spam warning. Check the link below my name at the end of this post. It is a clean link, no gobably gook. After of couple of days of clean emails, ATT, yesterday started allowing emails from Rootsweb to go through. So now that we are back 100%, lets start communicating. Do every single one of you, have your family tree completed and back more than one generation? I have one branch back to my 4th great grandfather by finding my 3rd great grandmother was born in County Down, Ireland in 1790. It took me 19 yrs to find her place of birth. She married a Smith in 1809 in New York City and that did not make it easy but by following her in the various censuses, I had a time when she didn't show up in them anymore so it was time to find her death certificate. Using the Italian Genealogy Group website, I found her death date and was able to get a copy of her death cert using Family History Library films. It gave me her baptism date, her maiden name and her place of birth. So with that info, I found her baptism record with the name of her father and also found four brothers. Here is the link for the Italian Genealogy Group. Their records do not cover just Italian ancestors, mine was Irish. http://italiangen.org/records-search/ Now I think we have to get our lists busy again. So, why not share one of your research journeys that was successful in finding one of your ancestors. Share how you found a record that opened doors -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
We were informed yesterday that Rootsweb was going to start dropping lists that are slow with very few or no recent posts to them. So, if we want to keep this list, we need to post to it. -- Pat Connors, list owner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Also, if you have a name in the surname registry and your email address has changed, please see the instructions at the bottom of the Surname Registry. I urge you to keep your email address current. I have just updated the Smith-NYC surname website at: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/SmithNYC/ The site has many links and resources to help with your Smith family research. If you have a Smith website, post it to this mailing list and I will pick it up and get it on the site when I update it next. BTW, my NY Smith emigrated to NYC before 1809 when he was married to Mary Ann Brownlee b in County Down, Ireland. From his death certificate, he died 1840 NYC, at the age of 55. Death cert says he was born in England but family history has him Scottish. He was a printer by trade. He and Mary Ann had 15 children all born in NYC. Eventually Mary Ann and many children move to Brooklyn where she died in 1872 at the age of 82. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com nymets22@gmail.com

> > Is this the Smithe list or Smith? I thought it was only for Smithe--? Doing genealogy research, one must use all the various spellings of a surname. Therefore, any of the various spellings of the Smith/Smyth name would be appropriate for this list. While it is dedicated to SMITHE, it would be sad if someone missed their family because others in it spelled the name differently. In my father's family, some have Connors and others have O'Connor as their last name but all are first cousins and/or brothers. -- Pat Connors, visiting South Lee, MA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
