(info from FamilySearch.org) I have his actual name was Pomphrey David Smith, or P.D. Smith. I don't know of a marriage to Julia, but do know he was married to Mary Susan (Sarah) McGee. She was also from VA and died 11/1/1874. P.D. then married Rachel Nunnely Butcher 11/19/1874 in Christian Co, KY. He died abt 1876. P.D. and Sarah are in the 1860 Christian Co, KY Census. Both are age 53 and he is listed as a merchant. He was a very prominent business man and the community they lived in was eventually named after him, Pee Dee, Kentucky. I found 3 of his children and 2 say they were born in TN on census records. This might not be the same person you are looking for but there sure are alot of similarities.
