Of their 8 children, 6 died before bearing children. One child, my GGGrandpa, William P. Smith 1850-1923 married Mary Etta Ligon in 1879. They lived in New Madrid County, Mo. Their children were Laura, Ernest, Louey, Arnold, Cleveland and Verdia. After Mary Etta died, William married Julia Cisco and they moved to Ripley County, Mo. and had one child, Minnie. Sterling and Temperance's other son, James Dixon Smith, married Alice Lee Gossett and they had 4 children, Lillie Cordelia, Mollie D., James A., and Hettie Ethel.
