His Civil War papers say on the Canadian. Some family said England some said Canada. He Married Charlotte Ann Tanner in 1876 mqybe. She was born in 1844 in Maryland. They were married in Rossyn, VA. I know that they lived in Washington DC via census' They had Catherine V., Joesph W. Smith (son) Grover Smith, and Serena Gertrude Smith Grgrandad Smith fought in the Civial War . I haven't been able to locate anything in regards to information on the discharge papers. If anyone knows anything about this Joseph Smith please contact me.
