However, last I heard, Eleanor Rosalyn SMITH [yes!] CARTER, wife of the former president, had traced her patrilineal SMITH lineage to a brother or first cousin of the Captain. FWIW, I think Mrs. Carter and I may be related on her SMITH line through a SMITH ancestor of my maternal grandmother. Son-of-a-gun, I may be related to the Captain myself! Oddly enough, I had given more thought to being related to Mrs. Carter. I need to get an update on her Smith lineage. Again FWIW, I'm a bona fida double 6th cousin to Mr. Carter through KAY and SEAWRIGHT connections. Actually, my DNA results indicated my patrilineal SMITH ancestors were from NW Germany!
