Smith, 65; Native of Aurora Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. in the Chapel of the Higby Mortuary for Lester D. Smith, 65, a native of Aurora who died in Omaha on April 16. Mr. Andy T. Ritchie, pastor of the Aurora Church of Christ, was the officiating clergyman, and interment was in the Aurora cemetery. Mrs. Lawrence Penner sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. C. L. Whitney, Sr., as accompanist. The casketbearers were Deryl Strong, Tommy Smith, Gary Butterfield, Albert McCall, W. R. Johnson, and Lloyd Carnes. Lester Dewey Smith, son of Thomas H. and Catherine Nicholas [sic] Smith, was born at Aurora on November 25, 1898, and passed away suddenly in Omaha on April 16, 1964, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 21 days. He attended the Aurora schools and following graduation he took up his father's profession of barbering. He worked at this trade for several years and during World War Two he worked in California as a tool and die maker. The last few years he has been employed as a barber in Omaha. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother, Frank, and one sister, Gladys. Those who survive are two brothers, Floyd of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas J. of Aurora; six sisters, Mrs. Nellie Miller of Central City, Mrs. Eva Daggett of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mrs. Rozella [sic] Lulow and Mrs. Lela Hamilton, both of Aurora, Mrs. Lila Sellers of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Cecile Strong of Aurora, and several nieces and nephews. _________ Note: Lester Dewey Smith’s parents were Thomas Hill Smith & Katherine Georgia “Kate” Nichols. ____________________
