Theresa, Is there anything else you know about him that could help narrow the search? Names of any of his children? (especially valuable clue for doing census and/or archives searches) What does his middle initial "A" stand for? More detail about his marriage(s) - location, etc? Was his wife still living when he died? What does her middle initial "E" stand for? Was he living in Indianapolis? If you have his death certificate, there may be other clues - for example, name of person who signed. James and Anna are such common names, but any other info known about them could help narrow the search. I'll help if I can (no charge, of course!) Send reply directly to my e-mail address if you haven't located him yet. Smith born 27 September 1856 in Indiana. He married in 1886 and 1890, He died on 2 June 1926 at his home on Avondale (Street Avenue, Lane or Drive) I haven't found him on the 1920 census but he should have been married to Anna E. (unknown) They had to have been married between 1890 abd 1920 but I can't find it on any online sources. What district would Avondale be found in? If you can help me I would surley appreciate it. Could the A in James A. Smith stand for Austin. This would provide a very good clue as he could be a descendant of Col. James Smith whose son William moved to Ind. in the early 1800's. Their dau. Anne married an Austin. Hard to track the Smiths without more information... Tom P. This James Smith died at a time when his death would normally have been reported in a local newspaper. Have you contacted a near library to learn what newspapers would have been published then? There are many newspaper archives across the country, from which the appropriate microfilms can be ordered. And, for the same reason, his death should have been recorded at least at the county level. -----Original Message----- From: Thomas Smith [mailto:smithy@grics.net] Sent: May 25, 2006 4:22 PM To: SMITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SMITH] James Smith 1920 Marion Co.
