    1. Owen Co KY Smiths
    2. Would really love to find somebody researching my recently discovered Smith family, living in Owen Co KY at least by 1830 (probably before that). Family head, first name unknown, probably died about 1839-1840. His youngest child Elizabeth was born abt 1840-1841 per census records, and his wife Agnes was head of house in both 1840 and 1850 census records. Agnes Smith died before 1861 and a deed record dtd that year provides the following information, with my comments and suppositions added: Mr. (name unknown) Smith (born KY or VA ? - died ca 1840, probably Owen Co KY) his wife, Agnes (nee?) Smith (born VA ca 1800 - died bef 1861, Owen Co KY) Children all born approx 1820-1840: 1. Susan S. Smith m. James S. Schooler - had no children 2. Mary Ann (Polly) Smith m. Thomas Dempsey - listed in Owen Co 1840 census, but she may have been a widow by 1861. Cannot locate in any other census. 3. Joshua T. Smith - said to have died in California either on way to or from gold fields, killed in an Indian attack. This has never been confirmed. 4. Eleanore Malinda Smith - m. (Reesor? Reaster?) but name looks like Keniester in the 1860 census, where she is a widow. 5. George W. Smith - married Mildren (last name unknown). They lived in Lusby Mill, but some of their children removed to Covington/Erlanger, Kenton Co KY. Researching descendants who married into Turner, Fornash, Mitts, etc. George Smith had sons named Calvin Breckenridge (or Beckenridge) and Elisha - what happened to them? 6. James R. Smith (nothing further known) 7. Alfred B. Smith (nothing further known) 8. Margaret Smith (nothing further known - may have died before 1861) 9. Nancy Jane Smith (nothing further known, but still single in 1861) 10. John W. Smith (probably removed to Lockport, Henry Co KY. If so, he lived next to brother-in-law Nathaniel Hardin in Lockport in the 1870 census, and died between 1870 - 1880. Some of John W's children were Robert, Ida, Lyden (Linden) and Eva. His grandson Bertie McDowell was born 1883. 11. Elizabeth E. Smith m. Nathaniel (Nat) Hardin and moved to Lockport/Harper's Ferry, Henry Co KY. They had children Lucy, Alfred, Ed(?), Annie, and Catherine. The oral tradition passed down in my family about these Smith ancestors is that several of the relatives went to California gold fields but were killed by Indians in an attack on their wagon train. Any assistance will be very much appreciated. Thank you Judy Davison
