I have run into block wall after block wall! I know they lived in and around the Carroll county area, But I have been unable to find them in any census. Thanks,
I have Smith's in Jasper Co, Ga. That is a little ways from Carroll, but we might find a connection. Do you have more details? If you'll give me details on your earliest known family group, I'll do a look at the census records - maybe you've over looked a clue. What counties in Georgia and Alabama have you heard mentioned? Have you tried starting with the 1930 census and working backwards in time? My GA Smiths probably came from PA to Knox Co., TN; then to Cherokee Co.., AL by 1840, then into Chatooga Co., GA by 1850. My great grandfather and his father were both named John Smith - almost like not having a name. But I found my gg gf SMITH ,and, my gg gm Smith's earlier McCoy and Borden lines are well traced. My DNA indicates my patrilineal Smiths probably came from NW Germany. Regards to all, Theron Smith.
