    3. Good Luck first of all. If you know his name and birth you might try searching his genealogy. It could prove to be very helpful. ----- Original Message ----- From: <godfreyfam94@msn.com> To: <SMITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 23, 2006 3:39 AM Subject: [SMITH] Biological father > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Smith, Stephen A. > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VJIBAEB/28235 > > Message Board Post: > > I am searching for my biological father. 3. I checked on Ancestry.com for the 1930 U.S. Ohio census for Morrow, Warren County. Here are the Smith individuals listed for Morrow: Wilbur M. Smith, age 37, born Ohio, head of household Mary Smith, age 26, no birthplace, wife Bernard Smith, age 16, no birthplace, son Zane Smith, age 6, no birthplace, son Byrl Smith, age 42, born Ohio, boarder Henry N. Smith, age 54, born Ohio, head of household Edna Smith, age 41, no birthplace, wife Gilletta Smith, age 15, no birthplace, daughter Lawrence W. Smith, age 59, born Illinois, head of household Carrie Smith, age 59, no birthplace, wife I also found a Wilbur James Smith, born 28 Sept 1915 died 26 Oct 1993 at Morrow. I found a Wilbur M. Smith, Jr., Negro, as a Korean Civil War Casualty, a private missing in action 4 Dec 1950 (and it is possible that he is a son of the Wilbur M. Smith at Morrow in the 1930 census). You can read about Morrow, Warren County, Ohio at: http://www.wikipedia.com Morrow is a village located in Salem Township and, in 2003, had a population of 1,422. Warren County is in the southeast corner of Ohio, Lebanon is the county seat, and Morrow is considered to be part of the Cincinnati metro commercial area. There are no daily newspapers published in Warren County, although "The Western Star" is the oldest weekly newspaper published in the state of Ohio and presumably covered/covers the Warren County area. The Warren County Genealogical Society is located at Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio and they have a number of published materials on their site that could prove to be helpful to your earlier research, once you have found the name of your natural father. Their Web site is at: http://www.co.warren.oh.us and you can select the Genealogy link and then the Publications link for their numerous publications. Your father was probably in the high school graduating class of 1956, 1957, or 1958--although it is possible he left school without graduating to join the Navy. For that reason, I would also consider checking Smith individuals who were in 10th and 11th grade for each yearbook (1956, 1957, and 1958) I think your best opportunity to locate possible Smith individuals would be to find out what the high school was for Morrow high school students at that time (possibly bused to Lebanon, Ohio--given school consolidation practices in rural areas). Morrow is probably too small to have been in city directories, although sometimes regional directories or county seat directories also published information for nearby smaller towns. I believe that I would connect with the public library at Lebanon and direct an initial query to them (keeping it "light") saying that you are doing family research for a Smith family that was at Morrow in the 1940s-1960s and that you have a member of that family whose first name you do not have but that he was a male born 1939-1940 and you would like to try to find him through high school yearbooks. Ask where high school students from Morrow would have attended at that time, and where high school yearbooks may be located (possibly even at the high school). Then, you may have to hire a researcher to review them--if they are not at the public library--and list all Smith individuals in the yearbooks for 1956, 1957, and 1958 (at least all MALE Smith individuals). Then you should be able to narrow the focus of your search. After that, I believe I would try to find what newspaper would have published local news items for Morrow such as births, marriages, deaths, visitations, joining the military, coming home on leave, etc. You might include at the same time in your query to the public library a question about this type of local newspaper coverage. You might also ask if the library has telephone directories for the period 1935-1965 that include Morrow so you can gather the Smith listings. Don't be reluctant to ask the same questions of The Warren County Genealogical Society. Good luck to you in your search. -- Adele -----Original Message----- From: Daisy Adams [mailto:dazlker@amaonline.com] Sent: April 23, 2006 7:53 AM To: SMITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SMITH] Biological father Good Luck first of all.
